    What size leader to use.

I am relatively new to the jigging game here in miami. I have 2 1400 saragosas we have been using the last two years with no complaints. We are using a shimano rod thats rated 80 to 100 and a captains harry's rod that is a little lighter. I have started using windon leaders and would like to know what # i should be using. I have 80# cortland on one reel and 50# cortland on the other. We have been using 80# mono leaders with some success but I want to know if we should go higher. We fish wrecks in the 200' to 270' range.

    hello
I use 55 pound saltiga boat and 60 pound seaguard flouro leader and is more than enough for the jacks in 235 ft deep on my favorite wreck. make sure that the 80 cortland is truly an 80 pound line but if use that same size leader you will be more than safe check with the guys in captain harry they fish with 30 pound line on the wrecks off key biscane is to ligth but works for them

I use 60-80 pound leaders on my jigging reel, but then I always just did it as a means of adding to my bottom fishing. I am now going to use them exclusively on certain trips.

My buddy uses 100 pound w no complaints.

BTW... I use Ande pink for my line w no issues thus far. I have caught quite a few fish, but haven't been a dedicated jigger as of yet. I haven't "bought" in to the Flouro deal yet. I tried it a few times and had much worse results than Ande Pink and to me confidence is key.

Thanks guys. We busted a few fish with the 60# leader. I guess I will stick with the 80# and try the 100. I use Andefor my other reels and will try it for leader on the jigging.

Ande is probably going to be too stiff, and I say probably because my only experience is with their line, not leader.

Look for something as soft as possible.

i think this depends on the fish you are going after - in the Gulf of Mexico(or the keys) i dont use over 80lb flouro - this is all with 80lb hollow braid or lighter. I havn't lost a fish to it yet, when i start catching 2490829824lb jacks ill switch leaders as of yet, i cant catch a 40 pounder for my life, so 80 is good for now. haha.

i do like the flouro for jigging - topwater is still run mono.
