    What size leader??

Planning on using Seaguar Floro, I dont know what size is the best match
Spooling up with 80lb Power Pro

What do you reccommend (fishing for bottom dwellers, AJ's, and football tunas)

    Xpat,

I like yozuri hybrid the pink stuff.
IMO it is much softer than seagar but hey, I got some of that stuff too :-)

for me the seagar doesn't knot as easily as the youzuri but what ever you like or have as that fluro is not cheap.....

most of my Jigging is done with 80# leader
and the same for my live bait or dead bait bottom rigs...

now some guys will tell you you need 130 or more for the BIG
    AJs

but I hardly ever use more than 17-20 lb. of drag. i have caught just as many on 80# with no problems now this can all change if your fishing heavy structure with lots of sharp rocks and what not. You'd have to size up.

Here in NC and more specifically Morehead City we don't have much need for anything over 130 unless your Marlin fishing or Giant fishing.

I hope this helps do some searches on this forum and I'm sure you can find more on this subject.

Personally save your floro and stick with regular #80 or #100 mono for the bottom dwellers. They aren't to leader shy and you will spend alot of time replacing expensive floro with the bottom dwellers. But if you want to target some tuna, get that floro back out. Tuna can just see to well. Personally I like seaguar floro but then again I have never jigged with floro, I'm to cheap for that . I like #80 ande clear mono, tried and true on the trolling stuff and hasn't let me down while jigging.

I catch more fish using Floro leaders vs. standard mono. I find that yellowfin tuna are the mot leader shy, and almost REQUIRE floro while on the chunk. For your setup id crimp a 20 foot 80# florocarbon leader to a wind on swivel tied to your braid using a simple polymer knot. (I also crimp my hooks.) Extremely reliable for me. Good luck.

The Varivas shock leader in 100 would be a good match...it will cushion the braid on those first runs and violent head shakes of a big AJ. Pricewise it is more than regular mono, but less than fluoro.

If the bite is slow then I would switch to fluoro. It get's bit better, and if you're tangling with fish in the rocks it will give you better abrasion resistance.

It's always good to have a few different size spools of each.

i wouldn't waste my money on Fluorocarbon leader for Amberjacks,
as some of the member already mention and i second there opinion,
AJ are not leader shy, we use up to 200lb Varivas leader or Fisherman stealth leader in North Carolina and we do loose a lot of jigs due to structure and other toothy creature,
choosing a leader depend on your bottom structure,
so keep your option open accordingly, i have in my bag a range from 80lb to 240lb,

I mostly use 80lb on 80lb. I'd like to think that my leader will snap if I get hung up before my braid will, not sure if this is the case or not though. Got a while without going jigging.

The next bite on a jig.
I think everyone has to use what they are confident in.

For me that is 100lb jinkai and 100lb seagar. I only fish 20lbs of drag when jigging, so both are well within spec of my tackle.
