you only need a 8000 stella for most fish including massive tuna but I would rather use a 20000 instead.

By what I've read the Hoppers are WAY stronger than the Trevelas. I ordered one for a friend, but it's not in til next week I guess. Should be getting my Smith WGJ rod too. CAN'T WAIT!

i would consider the smaller reels, its not the size of reel or line capacity (unless you are snowy fishing or get broke off a lot) its the drag capacity. i have saltist 4/0 and they are okay but one of my favs is the 20 and 30t. they are easier to jig w/because they are not so bulky and when jigging all day that matters. i like a reel i can almost "palm" in my hand . i have saltist 50's, i use for kingfishing and they feel way to big after using the smaller ones. my bro hoisted a 38 lb gag on a 20 saltist no prob and i have slayed many 20-30lb groupers on the 30t as well as aj's up to 60lbs. as everyone has said, when you get it get carbontex drags (smoothdrag.com) and they will give you about 5-7lbs more drag (@ least).
now original ?, island tackle has some reasonable jigging rods for $109, okuma i think and they have lifetime warranty. i have 2 barefoots, 4'10 and 6' and they work great for starters/backups if $ is a concern. i got them from jandh tackle online for $50. i have no complaints with my trevalla's, big plus is the lifetime warranty, ive broke a couple and tex gives me a new one, no prob! now when you finally get addicted, check out rileyrods, local buiilder mike pederson will make you a custom one to your exact specs.........

It looks like I will probably wind up winning the auction for the 50 but I can use it for other things. I am now bidding on a 30t. I have been looking at the barefoot rods and really like them. I saw them on j and h also and will probably pick one up this week. What I really need to do is a little field testing

    Thanks for the input.

I was just using that as an example of how you can fish with smaller gear or larger gear whichever makes you feel more comnfortable
