I hopped on a makeup charter on the Little Clam out of Hatteras Wednesday with fellow jigger Charlie and 3 bait fisherman Milton,Rich and Garland. Our prefered species were Grouper and maybe some Blackfin, unfortunately the current was RiPPing. We were forced to stay inside 50 fathoms but found some good pullage in close.
The bag was mixed with the usual suspects, though the quality was bigger than normal. We had Seabass, Triggers, B liners, Glassy eyeds, American Reds, small reef donkeys, a bunch of 2' sharks and a couple of small kings.
The top producing color was white or any combination of it. I fished the Lucanus on a few drops and did well on some fat triggers, big BSB and a nice glassy eyed. The kings were stealing our white flatsides left and right, but we had to stay with the flouro if we wanted any of the other fish to eat our jigs. Charlie finally switched to wire to land of few of the theifing Bast@rds. We dropped on a few spots that had marks up in the water column and suspected they were schools of Blackfin but never produced any.
We ended the day with sore arms and smiles on our mugs. Patrick did a great job keeping us on the fish, the guys that wanted meat took home plenty. Didn't take alot of photos, but heres a few.
