VS for jigging?

Well i was wondering im a big time surf nut and decided to hit the big blue for some tuna fun come october 8th. Its a 30hr trip and my question to all the great jiggers out there is a VS150 enough to go out and do some jigging with. I read the "Intro to jigging" thread with some awesome info but there was no mention of the VS. Now i know a lot of beach guys that used the Stella but does the 150 have enough capacity if i spooled with say 40+lb braid? The drag i know can take it and it is a beast of a real just dont know if the 150 is big enough.
Thanks,
Pete

Pete ...

we are pretty close in Northern NJ, depends on where you are going. If its inshore bluefins right here off the NJ coast you should be fine although 40 pounds is really light. If its off Cape Cod I would tell you no you wont land many fish with 40 pound braid and less than 275 yards of line

Well this is exactly what im doing. Its a charter out of Pt pleasant 30hrs tuna tile i have a Penn 50vsw i used for chunking and trolling but i feel i need something lighter what i can jig with and yet have some back bone i would love to get a nice shimano stick and a solid reel like accurate but 700+ for another reel atm isnt exactly possible.
Thanks for the help btw,
Pete

Pete, Gman told you right. If you are fishing out of Pt Pleasant then you should be ok. In fact with the VS's drag I would rather you put 50 or 65 on there in order to button down the drag. You are not going to get hudge runs out of those fish if fishing 65lb outting on 18+lb drag. I've been using my 8000 stella with 65 Sufix and maxing out my drag. They don't pull drag but a tiny bit on bursts.
Is it the idea jigging reel not but should work. Remember there have been the occassional 100-120 BFT there so take you time. It may be tough on a bigger boat. Good Luck. As for rods there are many choices out there. The trevalas are low on my list though. Although they have good warranty I hear.
