Hope you get into them good. Looking forward to the report.
Sorry for being away for so long but work has been an absolute buzzkill on my social life. Anyhow Im heading out of the Voyager HOPEFULLY tomorrow 9/14 on the tuna/mahi trip. I got plenty of gear for droping but really looking forway to hooking up on my JPR custom 400g jigger i got last season.
I hope to be able to post some pics of the day fish or no fish. Anyhow a bad day on the water is better than a good day at work.![]()
Well for the 1st time in many years my tuna trip was actually great. We set out on the Voyager from Pt, Pleasant at exactly 7am with Capt Jeft at the helm.
The trip is smooth sailing almost looking like glass this beautiful September morning on the 14th. Three and a half hours later we are fishing our first pot for some mahi and the next 7hrs are spent SMASHING them from little chickens to a BEAUTIFUL 25-30lb bull.
Around 8pm we set anchor and start chuming all the while the wind is picking up making for some VERY ROUGH seas through the night. 9 o'clock the first line goes off and its a beautiful 60lb yellowfin. Then nothing for another hour when my own line SCREAMS off peeling line off at a scary rate before i can even pick up the rod. Set the drag and fight to the back of the boat. Where its tangles and chaos galor. It was fun as hell lol where i fight and fight my 80lb stand up gear is bent in half my penn 50vsw is screaming line off after 30 min and still not a sign of the fish. Sadly things get way to tangled and i lost my monster but i will be back.
Overall through the night 20+ fish were hooked up 5 boated. All fish no less then 50lbs. I have to say i wish we could have boated more but God was it fun as hell.
