Detailed post on new world class jigging-popping tackle on the 55 Hooked Up 11
We have invested in two of Accurate’s BX2 600’s reels that are their newest introduction of light weight but super powerful dedicated conventional jigging reels that may just be the finest available in the world today for jigging bigger tuna and other powerful game fish. For those that prefer spinning tackle we will have possibly the world’s best spinning reel available for jigging in the Shimano's Stella 20000 SW along with two Shimano mid-grade Saragosa 18000 F spinners. We will compliment these world class reels with two Penn 300 Torques, Penn 16 SVX and Shimano Tiagra 16’s all loaded with the best spectra line’s available in 60,80,100 lb tests. We have opted to use Jerry Brown Hollow Core Spectra Basil from Basil at BHP Tackle on our conventional reels with short 100 mono top shots which we prefer when jigging. In traditional 20-30 fathom Bluefin jigging we do not require the color coded dedicated solid core spectra since our customers can watch from the cockpit while they drop their jigs down to the exact depth the tuna are holding real time on our 40 inch flat screen TV in the salon when we pipe down to the TV exactly what we see on our commercial grade high end digital fish finder. It really is an awesome capability to watch your jigs on TV and literally hit the tuna in the head with them. All other lines are color coded solid core spectra from top line suppliers as Diawa and OTI plus we do use 80 lb Tuff Stuff on one of our reels where we feel it provides the properties we are looking for. This season we will have a world class assortment of all custom advanced jigging rods to match our reels that are all capable of beating tuna up to 200 lbs if any angler is lucky enough to hook into one this big. These new rods are some of the most powerful but lightest Jigging rods built in the world today and everyone will be totally amazed when they pick up one of these rods up they feel more like they were made for Sea Bass but are capable of handling 200 lb Tuna and and other big game fish. They are nothing short of amazing. We have had our best custom rods made based on Japanese manufactured Jigging Master blanks. We also have OTI middle of the road light weight jigging rods we got from Paul at JPR Custom Rods locally that should serve us quite well on the average size tuna in the 100-150 lb range. Paul is also in the process of making us a new spinning rod to match up to our new Shimano Stella 20000 SW which we should have shortly. I believe this also is based on a Jigging Master 600 gram blank designed to handle super big Bluefins. Last my not least we now have a new Super Seeker Hercules 7'4" Rod used to throw poppers to tuna which we will match up with a Shimano spinner capable of handling 150 lb tuna or most anything else that might eat a jig or popper in our local waters. We have various different rod lengths from 4 foot 8 inches that the pros prefer to more charter boat friendly one in up to 5 foot 6 inches plus the long popping rod to cast for tuna when they are boiling on the surface. This tackle is close to the best that can be found in the world today for serious jigging of 125 lb. plus tuna and other powerful big game fish. You will not find any better dedicated jigging tackle on any charter boat anywhere. This new top end tackle that will provide our customers with the opportunity to jig with the some of the newest, most powerful light weight tackle money can buy that is capable of handling 200 lb Bluefin tuna. Again most anglers will fine this tackle nothing short of amazing especially if you are familiar with standard tackle that many boats currently as multipurpose tackle for chunking, jigging and trolling. This new dedicated tackle is so much lighter than standard all round tackle and it really does help prevent fatigue which I feel is the number one enemy when working a jig over a prolonged period. We will also have upward of 60 or higher quality jigs and poppers of many different styles, weights, colors and shapes which should cover just about any jigging situation we will ever encounter this coming season. If you would like to try out some of the newest and finest jigging and popping tackle money can buy this coming season on those 100-175 lb plus Bluefins, Wahoo and canyon Yellowfins contact us for additional information. We are also quite pleased to have some of the top jiggers on the East Coast joining us as guest instructors to help our customers learn more detailed information about jigging techniques and all the new tackle on the market today. If you book us in advance we can arrange having one our guest instructors on board for your trip and that does include Mr. Jigging master himself Kilsong along with others. We would like to thank these quality suppliers of jigging tackle for helping us put together what we feel is one great list of tackle for this coming jigging season. Paul, at JPR Custom Rods, Randy & Sami at Anglers Pro Shop, Kilsong from Kilsong’s Jigging World, Dan Harley owner of Cape May Tackle, Eastern Tackle and the Gman himself (Glen) who wrote the best article I have ever read about jigging right here on SportsFishermen.com. We did not solicit any financial support from any of these fine suppliers but their expert advice and information they contributed in the past was priceless in helping us learn more about jigging and choosing the right tackle that we feel would best fit our customer base overall. We can also include some great East Coast jiggers that have fished such as John Flores who showed us firsthand what this super light weight tackle can do as he beat a 135 lb tuna in just a matter of minutes and from then on we were believers. We have been jigging tuna for many years now using such old tackle as Penn 850 spinners and Newell Reels but it was not until Capt Mark DeBlasio introduced us to Kilsong and his world class jigging buddies a few years ago that we started to realize what jigging has to offer especially with the right tackle. We thank everyone including the many other anglers that have helped us over the last few years and we look forward to providing everyone regardless if they are a novice or pro some of the best tuna jigging possible in this coming season out of Cape May, NJ.
This is a post from earlier this year from Kil that motivated to purchase the new Accurate BX2 600 conventional and the Shimano Stella 20000 SW plus Saragosa 18000 F spinning reels from Kilsong’s Jigging World
It is my personal observation that no other reels will be close to the new Accurate BX2600, which is equivalent to 665 two-speed, for tuna jigging.
It is close to an ultimate tuna jigging reel I have been looking for.
They give up the round knob which is used for 665 two-speed and use power angled handle as they use for B2 30/50.
That is a good move.

John, I think you are the first charter boat Capt in the US who have Accurate BX2.
I am impressed with your determination to have the best equipments for your boat. The bluefin fishery out of Southern NJ, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia in late June and July becomes world famous as I have guests from Asia for making DVD in early July as well as seasoned long range boat fishermen out of San Diego
For those that would like to read one of the absolute best posts ever written about jigging and popping check out Gmans (Glen’s) introductory posts about Jigging & Popping listed under the Jigging and Popping section. There are so many excellent choices these days when it comes to jigging and popping tackle and I personally feel Glenn’s post is a must read to help acquaint those interested in knowing what is available in today’s ever changing world of jigging. We will have some of the top jigging tackle available to our customers to try out for themselves and see just how effective it is on the bigger Bluefin Tuna that we see each year off the Mid-Atlantic Coast. We feel this will help our customers decide what type and level of jigging tackle best fits their needs and pocket book as there is nothing like hands on experience and be able to test out the tackle first hand. This new tackle is so light weight but super powerful and this bodes well in today’s world especially since almost all Bluefins will be released this coming season. Using powerful tackle that can beat a big tuna in short order and released healthy is a very good thing for the tuna’s survival. One of the great things about jigging in my opinion is it offers kind of a new frontier for many of us and we enjoy being able to increase our personal knowledge and share this with our customers. Being able to learn new things is absolutely one of the aspects I enjoy the most about fishing and certainly today’s world of jigging fits this category big time. When it comes to jigging and popping you are never too old to learn and I have been jigging tuna for almost 20 years now but not with tackle anything close to today’s modern gear. My forestay has always been finding the tuna and I do that quite well but these days there is so much new jigging information available plus tackle we can all learn together and try for 200 lb tuna on a jig plus some nice size Wahoo. I strongly suggest reviewing Glenn’s post as it is one of very best I have ever read to date and should help many anglers learn about jigging and popping. Possibly if Glen's busy schedule allows we can get him down to Cape May this summer and join us as a guest instructor so he can share his vast knowledge of jigging and popping with some of our charter customers.
