funny, me too However, I have a few casting/popping rods I'll be trying out this year. In addition to the OTI 50lb rod, I'm going to pick up a longer 8ft rod when the tuna are really boat shy and a longer cast is needed. I have my eyes on a Zenaq as I don't think I can wait another season for Randy's new rods to come out Also, I just picked up a SUPER nice 7'3" blank on sunday from Randy's for Cubera/Roosterfish (even sailfish and 40lb tuna, but I bet I could even use it on big Blues out in front!) that I'll be buying parts for later in the month.

i hear OTI is coming out with a few different size popper blanks
i missed the first prototype ,shipping mixup
but i hear the next model is on its way
i cant wait to see it
it sounds a little longer than the 7'6" and "maybe" a little lighter than the 50
i really cant comment till i see, and build
and i will probably let TJ make his decision
it sounds like it will be "smith like"

I will be again for the 4th year using my Van Stall 300 Paired up with a 7 foot Cape fear stand up spinning rod. Its a vetran but still produces year after year. I also will be using a Stella 10000 on a Trevala. I want to try and land a bluefin on my smaller Van Stall 150. I have yet to get a rod for that.

Hi Glenn, I'm good. We took the new boat out to Stellwagaon for some groundfishing in 3' to 4 footers on Saturday and it performed flawlessly. I can't wait till the first tuna show up.

Paul I'm not sure what the drag is capable of. All I can say is it has stopped fish in the 100 pound class and caught many between 30 to 100 pounds. I am looking for a light 6'6" casting rod that has the backbone to fight a tuna for the Van Stall 150.

Glad to hear from you Dan, I will see you this season

Ok Im sure I will get bashed for using high end Japanese gear here but here it goes. I will be using two different casting rigs for chasing Bluefin off Cape Cod this year

1. Zenaq Fooketo 83-5 casting rod paired with a stella 10000FA 65 # braid for tossing medium lures such as Voladors, Shibukis and Baby Runbohs all in teh 3-4 ounce range

2. Carpenter DJ83MH casting rod paired with a Stella 180000HG for larger lures such as Craftbait stickbaits ranging in the 7 ounce weight with 65# braid

These setups have beaten tuna over 57 inches and several Striped Marlin so I am excited to get up there and chase some fish

Not at all brother I'm thinking of picking up a Zenaq myself for longer casting situations too. However, I'm looking at a lighter model than yours as I want to be able to throw 1.5oz-4oz lures effectively. Since I don't see myself catching GT anytime soon, I pray that will suffice for now But boy those Carpenter's load up nicely.
