    trinidad 30

wondering if my trinidad 30 with max drag 20.0 and gear 6.2.1
would be suitable for jigging. also what would be a good match for a conventional rod. thanks Doug

I think it would be fine, at least to see if you like vertical jigging. If you really get into it you can get more specialized gear. For example, a reel with a narrower spool and lower gear ratio. The trinidad 30 will do you just fine though. Depends on your budget, target fish, and depth/size jigs for your rod choice.

Yes my budget is not to high and I have this real which I really like. True a lower gear may help, but again I am learning all the time about jigging. I will use a travalla rod and again my budget will work with this. I have a travalla spin rod with a cedross reel and have had some success. I am mostly fishing for grouper bonita and maybe kings. Don't expect to be going for anything bigger for now. I thank you for your time and response.

Sounds like you are on your way! The trinidads are good reels. I know quite a few people that are using the 40n models. Welcome to the addiction...just wait until you have the feeling of never having enough jigs, even though you have two bags full

It depends on sizes of fish you target.
You can get about 18 lbs max drag out of box unless you upgrade the drag. I don't recommend to upgrade the drag of TN30 and use over 18 lbs drag as the anti reverse gear of TN30 is not strong enough.TN40 is a totally different reel. It is a bigger reel than TN30 and the max drag of TN40 is over 30 lbs out of box and has stronger anti-reverse gear to sustain heavy drag pressure.

Guilty as charged. As a matter of fact I'm getting ready to place another order with Sea Draggin. As a matter of fact part of the order is a jig roll because my 2 jig bags are full.

Me too! I just ordered a bunch last month and had him bring me a couple this past weekend. I need to go fishing more so I can use all these jigs!

The TN 30 is a good jigging reel. The best no, and far from the worst. We caught alot of fish on the trinidad and torium 30s. You will like it and if you get good at speed jiggin on a 30 then when you fish a narrow you'll be amazed. My buddy that fished with me the other day can't use a narrow for some reason. He is the best i've seen speed jigging a wide reel. Weird, if you ask me.
