    Trevala Rod

Well after reading all the feedback on these trevala rods, I have to tell you my experience with the Conventional tvc- medium heavy rod. First off fishing in about 50 feet off Naples we found maybe the best bottom in a while. My son caught his limit with a 26" and 25" very quickly. Myself jigging I had the best action with my knew gear. I was using the Trevala with an Accurate boss x 400. I hooked into a large grouper pulled it from it's hole and snap goes the trevala. I have had this rod two days and my worst fear had happened. Now as I have read many times stay clear of this rod, and invest in something better. I even read where the same thing had happened to another guy. Being new to jigging I put my money into the real first.
The Accurate is a fine reel and now maybe is the time to upgrade to a better rod. I will try to return the rod to Bass Pro for an exchange. I know if anything that's all they may do.
There selection is limited, would there be a better rod for the exchange. I have read that some model #s of the trevala's are far better than others.
All in all we had a great day. The 100 bucks I lost was a lesson well learned. I am definitely staying with jigging, and will be moving on away from the trevala.
    Thanks for your advise,Doug

sorry to hear that your rod broke, that'll ruin a day.

bass pro will replace it, right then and there. i dont think you are going to get a whole lot better of a rod at Bass Pro for the money. trust me, i have walked those isles.

for what its worth i punish my trevalas on a regular basis and have yet to have any problems, try em again, i think you got a lemon.

i hate to be that guy, but any possibility you high sticked it?

After the jigging thing hit big up here a year or two ago I can remember a rash of trevalas coming into tackle shops all broken in about the same place. After talking to folks, they figured out that folks were putting the hook on the guide feet and letting the jig hang. On the runs to and from the fishing grounds the jigs were hitting the blanks repeatedly and were causing weak spots that snapped under load. The thing with graphite is it's strong, responsive, light....and brittle. I'm not sure if something like that could have happened, but it's certainly something to be aware of.

Sorry to hear that your first experience wasn't all that it could have been, but it certainly sounds like you've seen all that jigging can be.

Im not surprised. When I saw the title of the post, I knew without reading that the feedback was going to involve the word "broken".
I don't see them carrying that rod next year.

I had a conversation with a guy the other day that was centered around those rods. When I explained that buying the cheap rod that has a great return policy is wonderful until you look at all of the money that you lose during the trip out to fish and have a broken rod during the trip, you could buy 3-5 customs and still have money left over.
There are some awesome blanks that are inexpensive. The American Tackle blank is awesome and doesnt cost 1/4 of the big boys blanks.

When you exchange the rod try upping it to a heavier one like the xxh. it should still work the jigs you are using fine. This is what I was trying to say in your other posts. They are fine rods, you just have to fish them heavier than they say. Glad to see that you got into fish. Good Luck.

Yes they did exchange and I got the heavy one in it's place. I almost got the xxl, but I do like the feel of the six footer.
I have gotten to know the staff well at bass pro. While they are good in some areas with merchandise, I think as you all say there rods are limited. With no slur intended they are like a glorified wal-mart. Too bad they do not have more of the higher quality rods cause with my points accumulating pretty soon I can buy one. I will just have to use them for another accurate. Thanks for taking time on football Sunday for your advise. Doug

You got to use rods what they are intended for.
You definitely break fluke rod if you use if for tuna even how good quality the fluke rod is.
Trevala's heaviest model XXH is like 250g rod and rods you used like 150 - 200g rod.
If you like to use rods for grouper jigging, you need rods with more stiff tip and backbone. If you are looking for economic jigging for them, heavier models of Hopper rods or Van Staal jigging rods are good choice.

I'm returning one as soon as I can get to the store....used it about 6 trips and the first 4 eyes are "loose" on the rod. Going to sell the new rod that they give me and invest in a custom.
