    Torium 30's and these BLUE-FIN-BEAST

Looking to get to the BFT action Mon-Tues and my jigging set up is a little light with Torium 30's on Trevela 80#-200# rods with 80# braid. We will be using 50WII speeds on the troll but not sure if we can get away with a 22# drag and alot of thumb if we connect dropping a jig. Usually wouldn't be targeting the beast...can't pass it up! What do you think?

    Alot of fun

also a lot of chasing the fish with the boat.

We hooked up a few seasons back jigging for cod and a tuna 52" approx 80 lbs took the crippled herring on a ugly stick with a torium 30. What a battle 40 min before we got the gaff in him.

    Good luck and hang on!!!!!

Here is a video we made putting some 120#+ BFTs in the boat with Toriums on the Shimano Butterfly Rods.... Its on the second half of the video....
Not the fastest process, but you can do it if you get the right size fish, and a bit of luck....

WOW! What a response. Nice video. My brother said he would rebuild them if we put to much on them. Afraid to much may not leave anything to rebuild. Now just wishing I was heading out Thur-Sat but will be waiting for Monday to come around and then the weather? Work really does get in the way. Thanks

    You should hope..

that you don't piss off a large BFT. Keep a knife handy in case you want to salvage some line.

If you hook one on a Torium and you have any drag pressure at all, the fight will be over before you can say what happened.

I busted a torium 30's anti-reverse fighting a 20lb striper off the dock of a party boat before a cod trip, and another one just jigging with a 16 oz jig. Just sayin'. Neither, incidentally, were my own reels .

Willy if you want to save and keep the reel send it to Alantani and have him rebuild it and it won't break after that. He beefs up the antireverse pawl and spring and replaces the plastic clip that holds the clutch assy in, he can also put you on a real T handle for more power.
