Old hat....LOL
Sept. 2007 East of the Dip, had 2 swordies jigged up by Kilsong in same night, on purpose. First one was 130 pounds or so, second was a 45 inch pup that we released. We had 5 total to the boat that night, 3 more on bait, and broke off 2 more. We were out there specifically for swords, and we found em. Both fish came to the boat immediately after being hooked, then went apeshit when they figured out what happened.
Last year I jigged up a 100 class sword, after having him come roaring after the retrieved short bait we were changing out. Dropped down a braid 424 in pink and he took it on the first jig, on the up swing. Same thing, he came right to the boat, and we stuck him green, unfortunately he beat the living hell out of my gaff man and the boat. I think they get all wierded out when they get hooked on the jig, takes them a bit to realize what is going on.
All three jigged swords came from less than 75 feet down, and every single one of my swords(all night time) has come on a short or mid bait higher than 100 feet under the boat..
You have to be on them to really focus jigging solely on swords....and I would imagine it has to be at night due to the depths involved during daylight hours. At night they are up in the water column.

that is exactly what i was thinking. Kil, let me know if you want to possibly try the daytime thing here out of VA nex fall/winter. I think it can be done!!! i just had a rod/reel made and should get it tomorrow. can't wait. we may be able to do a day night thing if you want. We have been targeting them in teh day and night here out of VB for 4 years now and have caught over 14 fish and hooked many more during the day (not jigging) but i think it can be done with a little luck. We had a day trip two years ago with 10 hookups out of 12 drops in the norfolk. Just throwing it out there.
Thats cool what you have done at night i knew someone had done it purposly.

An idea...
I see someone made mention of a "squid-like" glow jig for swords, so something like this might work well... using glow jigs and glow squid bodies slipped over them...

Here is an idea of the outline and glow of hopefully what a Sword will see and take a whack at...

The added skirt over the jig body also slows it down somewhat on the drop, which could be an advantage giving the Sword a little more time to get his mouth around it...
I've never fished for Swords guys, so this is pure speculation... but thought it might be worth trying.....

Those look pretty sweet! I might have to put a couple of those together!
