    Swell Rider NC, Grouper Report..06/01

June 1st it's hard to believe but today was a day of ups and downs..Left the dock around 6am was greeted with a beautiful sunrise and flat calm seas, what a way to start the day..Our first stop was in the 35nm range hit the piece and the screen lite up like a christmas tree. As soon as you hit the bottom you were hooked up with either a Big Porgy or a small Scamp Grouper, we didn't have much current so we made a few short drifts till things straightend out. Once we drop the hook it was on with the Red Grouper, after farming a few off we started to fill the box. It seemed that everytime Kennedy or myself were hooked up the light line would go off with eother a Mahi or King Mackeral this kept up for a couiple hrs..Pull the anchore to reposition on the piece and thats when the starboard engines lower unit blew not the way I wanted to end the day but things happen..We limped in on one at a blistering 9kts thank god it was calm, on the brightside Kennedy started to make some civeche earlier in the day and with the long ride in we were able to enjoy it.. Boats in the shop being worked on hopefully have it back by the first part of next week, figers crossed that the warrenty holds up...

Ken good to see nice weather and good fishing, too bad about the lower unit. Motor issues really suck, good thing you have twins.
Let us know if there is anything you need for us to help. Hopefully we get out there this weekend with better luck and you can relax and just fish with us on the Reg. All ya need is some cold beers and good numbers.
    See you in Hatteras

Ken, nice work on the reds. I have a Suzuki 115 and you just reminded my to change lower unit oil. I think your buddy fished with us on an overnighter on the The Continental Shelf, I hooked him up with some small beeliners. But, I dont think he got into the grouper like he wanted to.

Good work on the groupers Ken, it sucks about the motor. I had one of my opti's take a shit on my kencraft about 42 miles out once and had a nice long ride in just like you at 9 kts on one motor, it wasn't too fun. It will be a good weekend for you to come fish with us though.

Really? I knew he caught a nice red but I was to busy cleaning the boat to see who won the pool, usually an amberjack wins it but that trip decided that an amberjack wasn't included in the pool.

    Ken,

That BLOWS abotu your motor@! What a crappy time for that to happen. Is there any reason they wouldnt cover it under your warranty? Hope she is fixed soon and free of charge so you can get back after 'em! If it ends up being in the shop for too long and you are jonesn to get out ... let me know. Will take a ride out on Little Tooth.
