Swell Rider..Hatteras Report..06/07,08
With 2009 being a year of ups and downs, bad weather, cancelled charters due to the weather, economy and now a major engine repair my black cloud was in need of a silver lining..Got a call from a few of the boys up north when they heard of the engine issues said they were headed to Hatteras with there new Regulator and asked if Id be interest in jumping onboard for a couple days this mini vacation couldn't have come at a better time..Travis, Mike and Jesse drug the boat down from Jersey saturday night so we met at Teach's Lair sunday morning at 5am..This was a jigging purist trip meaning NO BAIT!!! these guys just love to jig..Spoke with my good buddy Joe Magidino who is one of the best commercial bottom fisherman around and who now lives and fishes out of the OBX figured Id go to the source to see if I should go left or right when I leave the inlet crossed referrenced our info put the # into the machine and it was out the inlet...Lite NE winds, lazy swell and overcast was the call of the day but in 1 hr we were in 45fth and fishing.. It was pretty much lock and load on the first couple spots all the AJ'S you could pull on..It was like this all morning and when the current got the best of us we headed it to the hill since it was a long all night drive for everyone..
Day 2 After a night of well need sleep we hit the inlet at sunrise and headed to a diffrent area, beautiful morning and another short run to the grounds, no wind and sunny sky's was todays forecast, 45 to 50fths and it was game on right away the bottom was alive with AJ'S, Jumbo Sea Bass, Grouper and of course Sharks it was like fishing at Sea World..There was quite a bit of surface action so we started throwing surface irons and the Mahi and small tuna were all over them..It was run and gun after the fish but just alot of fun...Wrapped it up around 3pm headed her to the hill and a meal at the Sandbar before the long ride home seing I mist the last ceder island ferry..This was a well needed trip for me and now I just have to sit and wait till the Swell Rider is out of the shop and ready to roll again...

Seems like a great day on some beautiful water with some happy jiggers.
Amazing shark picture in that aquarium! What is that small grouper or bass looking fish?
Good luck with the engine. Jacky is fishing solo for cobia around the Cape if you're around.

MM,
Hatteras is a great trip, would of liked Jacky to go but wasn't sure if he was out of school yet..Hopefully the boat will be fixed by the weekend losing alot of $$$. Going to try and head up there again at the end of the months..My cell phone hasn't been working getting a new one today..Ken

Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
Its pretty crazy that when we need a break from fishing we go fishing.

Ken, I'm glad you had a good time with us. The weather was awsome and it was great to get out and learn some new waters.

Really got lucky with the weather, couldn't ask for a better two days..The best part about fishing out of Hatteras is were catching AJ'S and Sea Bass and the boat next too us is releasing a Blue Marlin..endless opportunities...

Sit down Shut up And fish
Yeh it was a great weekend with no sleep and lots of fish. We had a hard time getting away from cookie cutter AJs but it was nice exploring and putting together some good numbers. The boat ran great was pleasure being with my best friends.
That water was sweet, I wish we had waters here in NJ like that close to the beach. Looking forward to the next trip and down there with some YFTs and more BFTs. Till then its time to focus on our bluefins now.
Sea Draggin we saw the "liitle clam", isn't that the boat you charter? That thing is massive, slow, but massive!!! Tons of room on her to fish.
