Suggestions for jigs for grouper, mutton snapper, etc in Sea of Abaco?
Going to be in Abaco and want to do some fishing inside the Sea of Abaco which I believe is relatievely shallow - less than 20' or so.
Need some specific suggestions for jig types that would work well in these waters. Can't find around here and have to order them so specifics with colors, sizes, weights would be great and any good place to order from.
Also what weight line and type is good for the clear water there? Thinking should stay with a clear mono vs a colored braid or just use a decent length of flourocarbon leader if use braid?
Thanks
Ryan

Any chartreuse 1.5 to 2oz. jig will suffice. I have had trouble catching fish in the Sea of Abaco....don't get your hopes up for many keeper grouper or snapper on the inside. The fishing in the ocean and on the flats is where its at.

Good suggestion! Its funny, we think everything coming from the orient is the best/new and they are having a love affair with the crippled herrings.
That and doing guided trips in stocked farm ponds?
I think our perception and the reality are very different.

I was talking bucktails. The fish inside down there are pretty smart so sometimes you need to tip with some bait. There are some big mangrove snapper around some of the docks in deeper water. They are very smart. I eventually was able to fool them with pieces of hotdog buried in a hook on 10 lb flouro leader. Keep that in mind. Try trolling some stretch 25's in the inlets for grouper.

Got fish
My folks live on Man-O-War and I have some experience in fishing the Sea of Abaco. There are many yellow snaps on the patch reefs and most of the success is with fresh cut bait and conch although small tipped jigs will work. Not easy to find the productive reefs. I might suggest hooking up with a local guide for a day; its one of those places where you will pay for local knowledge
Usually use a short leader of flouro : 10 - 16 # is fine, up to 5/0 hooks and light spinning rig is fine; heavier stuff in the mangroves.
I use white or yellow bare 1/4 - 3/4 oz hookup lures or like jigs tipped with conch or crab when casting.
Have fun!

bucktails and GULP shrimp. Cut sardines work well freelined or with small splitshot, floro leader is a must, try 20lb unless you get lotts of cutoffs
