    Stripers NJ 5-9-2009

Well I know its not jigging but at least I got out! We had an early start and was down to the boat by 5, headed out of morgan creek to the site of PEA SOUP fog!! With all the crap in the water we didn't want to take a chance, so we took it slow and decided to troll. We trolled out to the middle of the bay and quickly had a bunch of blues. We got near the spot where I wanted to anchor and bamm we had our 1st fish on the troll, so I marked the spot and came back to throw the hook. Once the fog lifted, i finally saw boats near us! We started getting hits right away, we limited out within 2 hours (ran out of bait or we would have stayed and played catch and release) and was back at the dock by 12:00. Our total for the day was our limit (4), about 12 shorties and over a dozen blues!

Nice fish guys. What do you guys troll with ( Lures)? Do you use downriggers? Just getting into this striper fishing. Trying to learn a little. Thanks in advance !

I will usually troll, when I can't find the fish! Once located either anchor and use clams or bunker (live or fresh). But for trolling having rods with wire line is Key (in my opinion) with wire you can accuratly get your umbrella rigs in the strike zone! Also Using Stretch 25 or Rapalla lures ( which are deep diving lures) with braid will also work well.. PM me if you need any additional information..

The next bite on a jig.
    Nick,
Jlatham on here has had good luck jigging them with bucktails and lucanus style jigs.

Just a thought for something different you could try.

Then there is always the red head ayasugi when the bigger ones show up.

yea we bucktail and jig in the fall, but when their scatterd in the spring they don't hit bucktails as good for some reason (thinkg there just lazy and slow), especially when the waters cold up here.
