    Stripers on butterflies

I have a Stella 10000 I bought about 8 months ago and a jigging rod, one thing and another, have not had a chance to use it. Went out of OI last Fri. and decide I would jig for stripers with this rig and a butterfly jig. What a blast! Cant believe I have not done more of this before. I know stripers are not the ideal target for this, but I found it to be deadly on them, as went down quickly and deep and mimicked the menhaden they were feeding on. Easily out fished those using big bucktails and plastic trailers.

The next bite on a jig.
Thats cool. Were you by the bridge or out in the ocean.

I have thought that jigging small jigs around the pilings might produce various species.

It's awesome on stripers. We came back from a tuna fishing day that was a bust and thought we would " try " for some bass but all we had on board that was suitable was the jigging stuff. Well we marked fish and dropped them down, bam! We released about 30-40 bass that day in about an hour all in the 20-25lb range. We will be doing more of it this year neddless to say! We used the smaller jigs and it worked out just fine.

In the ocean. Hit a mark and drop down, game on. They were spitting up menhaden, and the jigs were a darn good match. Plus they go down so much quicker than a bucktail/worm comb, easier to get on the mark.
