I have the Stradic 8k too and have no complaints. Anybody know where i can get an upgraded drag for it though? Checked smoothdrag.com with no luck.

got the reels in the mail the other day and put a little mono backing on them and they still spooled up 235yrds of 50# pp with room for a top shot. caught large red drum on both reels rods sunday. btw, i paired these reels with the magigraf 6'6" barefoot rods (12-50#) and all i can say is what a setup. (very similar to a medhevy shimano tallus 6'6" 20-40#) they are almost as light as some of my trout rods, but put an arse whoopin on a 49.5" and 42" red and a cow nosed ray. i would suggest this setup to anybody wanting sailfish rods or a popping rod, or spinning setup for cobia and red drum. these reels could probably fit close to 300-325 yrds of 50#pp with 2-3 wraps of 50#mono backing and still have room for tops shot. i am going to do this on teh extra spool for offshore. the drags on these reels exceeded my expectations and are well superior to the older fh model and are waterproof. the funny thing was, that in watching fishing on espn on sat/sunday morning i say the same set being used sailfishing out of islamorada on tv. reels i found for $168 buytackle.com and the rods were $49.99 j&h.

while i normally support local vendors and supporters of this site and have spent money with them, i was on a strict budget and needed multiple items of which these were only two of the 5 setups i am getting. some of the other items i purchsed were from local tackle shops and supporters of this site (including my new riley rod blank a friend is building for me and i will post pics of soon).

for jigging i think the 8000 saragosa is way over rated. i have pulled on one with 18lbs of drag and the rotor arm bent so far it actually was rubbing on the spool. i was amazed the rotor was so flimsy. i believe this is not a problem on the 14k and 18k as they have aluminum rotors.
