    star drag or lever drag

I'm wanting to upgrade my jigging reel and have been using a star drag. After reading this forum, now I'm wondering if I ought to go with a lever drag. All my other offshore reels are lever. Just wanted to here some opinions. Thanks

For my money the Shimano Trinidad is the best "all around" reel i have owned/used. (star drag) i have TLDs and Penn Intl's but i prefer the trinidad for wreck/jigging. my $.o2

    Catman-
Good question. I would like to hear what others have to say about star drags vs lever drags for jigging as well. I personally like star drags (I use a saltiga 40), as jigging really doesn't require you to adjust your drags a lot the way other styles of fishing do. Plus, I like being able to drop to freespool just by flicking a switch. As with most things fishing it's all about personal prefference.

Take a real good look at the 665 accurate 2 speed or single. I like both type of reels but the drags just seem to hold up better with the lever drags. Plus with the accurate you have drags on both sides. It has lots of power and the free spool is second to none. Its lite and has plenty of guts for just about anything. I have mine loaded with 100lb braid and can jig all day with it. The trinidads 40 and 50 have the same power but they weigh more and feel bulky to me. Thats my opinion. There all good reels, but I find myslef reaching for the accurate the most. Have fun picking out a new reel.

Galazio, Most of my jigging is around wrecks, but we do hit the hard bottoms sometimes. Most fish have been AJs, also kings and a few groupers. Thanks for everyone input.
