    Something Special #2

I wasn't exactly happy with my first try. I felt like it was a 7 on a 1-10. I feel like I"m up to an 8 with this one. Nice glow belly and it only took my about 1/3 of time the first one did. 300g WLB. I have some 400g ones that I might try next.

The flash brought out the greens in the ab, but its much bluer.

Looking good. Are these one off's, or are you going to be making them and selling them?

Not for sale, unless I can get an 11 on a 1-10 scale.

To be honest, the orient does such a good job, I could never match what they are doing. That being said, importing real abalone is difficult/impossible to say the least.

So, just for fun mainly and special gifts.

I bet the fish would be happy with a 7 out of 10. I'd sure like to buy some. They look great.

    Jim,
What kind of paint are you using? You may want to try a powder paint - you can heat it well enough with an alcohol burner.

Thats what I used, but don't care for it on big projects like this. I'm going to go look at air brushes tomorrow. I can airbrush the stuff, then aftcoat and it will be as good as powder paint. Because of the abalone, it has to be coated anyway.

That jig looks awesome! I pretty much want to eat it.
I would certainly buy those if you were to make them. I'd much rather buy from a local guy!

What exactly is abalone and what makes it so hard to get?

Jim another really nice jig, that thing is sweet.

I used to hang around with a taxidermist and would help him out some. When it come to airbrushes, the cheap simple ones seemed to work just as well as the expensive ones.

    Tim[/QUOTE]

It's a shell fish found in the Pacific waters. In the late 80's I was working in Nor. Cal. and would free dive for them, awesome table fare. They used to farm raise them somewhere around Santa Cruz, I don't know why they are so hard to get.
