Some fine Yellowfin and now Bluefin reports on jigs lately
Excellent Bluefin and Yellowfin fishing yesterday moslty all inshore yesterday and most of last week as well.
We fished inshore the last few days because of the winds offshore and ended up not going offshore yesteday because two anglers on our charter were in the late 70's and the group was concerned about the seas being too rough for them. Even though we did not go I got some excellent tuna reports last night from friends that did go and did pretty well yesterday on day tuna trips.
One boat had 11 Bluefins all on jigs along the 30 fathom line in off the lumps and hills and they were not far up in north Jersey where the BFT were most of the summer.Another boat had somewhere around 9 Yellowfins last Tuesday and lost a few on this trip as well. No specific details on what jigs they used or exactly location but they are out of a south Jersey port so I can pretty well guess the general location on the 30 line where they were fishing. Another boat within range of Southern Jersey or DE had 6 Yellowfins day chunking plus two Bluefins along the 40 line up toward the Lobster Claw but a little east of it. I know of a a few other reports where tuna were trolled locally as well out of Cape May so it is looking better every day for all of us as the tuna seem to be moving south now with the really good reports and catches recently.
We will be doing some last minute tuna trips for singles and small groups this week if you would like to come to Cape May and do some tuna fishing (609) 425-1970. I will know more today as some of my freinds will be out tuna fishing and probably be going to the 40 fathom location to troll and jig both Yellowfins and now Bluefins. We also plan on some jig and popper only overnight trips when and if the canyon night bite on Yellowfins starts up in our local canyons. There will be no trolling on these trips what so ever.
I am guessing we will be reading or hearing about some local DE and MD boats catching tuna any day now and one boat had 5 tuna plus a Wahoo flag flying yesterday afternoon at my marina in Cape May and he only has a 16-17 knot older boat so he could not have gone too far on a day troll trip but he did very well with 5 tuna in today's world. Not sure if they were released BFT or Yellowfins although. It seems the best Yellowfin bite plus some BFT are all inshore along the 30-40 fathom lines and not in the canyons and that is pretty much where we fished for Yellowfins the last 5 weeks but up until last week it was all trolling but that has changed now with jigs catching their share of tuna. From our recent trips and all the reports from last week
