Havent tried them out yet, but hope to this year!!! 150+ jigs!
This one has surprisingly accounted for a few this year. However they are switching it around and rigging it so it is top heavy.

A design I have been working on, hope to try it out next year.

Chrome or gold Braid slammer jig in 5 or 7 oz depending on current and bait that day. We had an awesoem tune bite on bluefin all jigging, bait guys had very few. We tried all the jigs in our arsenol, braid slammers, shimano butterfly's, some of those pictured above in taz pictures, and good ole hammered diamond jigs. All had hits, but the hammered dimanond jigs and the briads outfished the rest 4:1. We've had great luck slinging the others at the canyons for yft as well. The shimano's work at night when the fish feed on squid, but are often outfished by plain ole hammered dimamonds of the braid slammers when the bait of choice isnt squid, or it is an all out frenzy. I've bought more tackle then I will ever need and have now slimmed down to just what works, I carry 3 shimnao butterfly's, 6 slammers and 6 diamonds for myself...nothing else as far as jigs go. The braid slammers are hard to find in silver in NJ, I know fishermen's headquarters can get them if they aren't in stock, they often sell fast there.
When the fishing is good almost anything will work, but you want what works when the bite is slkow but fish are marked below the boat. We've seen this time and time again for the past few years that these are the best producing lures off NJ on a regular basis.
Just remember, the key to jigging tuna is a hard fast sweep up and then follow it down as it flutters down to keep some tension off to feel the hit. You can have the best jig out, but if you don't do it right it won't matter. A good jig rod will work best giving it the best action and not killing the angler like guys slinging 50 and 30wides. We jig custom jig rods with avet hxw reels and shimano toriums. Boith are awesome reels and work hard, avet's benefit is the 2 speed which is nice in case you hook into an 80-90+lb fish.
Hope this was helpful!!
just curious what you guys were using...i got a bunch of jigs from "paul 708",oti jigs...the pink color, paul, these worked great...standard hammered jig was good too...another jig that kicked ass is a flat side from shimano-it's short and it looks just like a sand eel..
i use a penn 16vsx reel,80lb jerry brown, loop to loop connected to a wind on by dirty kirk...100' top shot, works like a champ for jigging, you can guess where the jig is...
don't like those avet reels, one word,cheap...real cheap-no offense here boys...we had a jig stick explode while hooked up to a 100 class bluefin-still got the fish on the boat...![]()
jimmy. glad to see the pink worked. the silver did ok also.
dirty kirk windons
i like the saltiga reel for jigging around here, pretty light and i really havent had any problems with them yet,
Give the Williamson Benthos a try in the 7 and 9oz models in blue/pink, we absolutely slam the Grouper and AJ's on them...oh yea the tuna have a tough time resisting them too!!
