SHORT RODS, death spin

over the last 6 month there has been a BIG increase in requests for "short" rods to be used for tuna jigging
rod under 6'
these rods are built for big fish and capable of getting fish to the boat quick

how have these rods been working for the guys using
lets hear some feed back on shorter rods

i will be using shorter rods more this year.
i have used them before with not much problem ,
but lets hear what you guys think

paul, are these custom blanks , or are you trimming them down hard.????

short stock blanks,

the OTI are 5'6 to 6'
the JIGGING MASTER are appox 5'8"
a few calstar models 4'10" to 6'
these are being built at these sizes

extreme short custom
all the 3 brands are being CUT shorter
some under 5' mostly for spin rods

and there are some hardcore "rack rod" imports that are very short being used

So far Paul no problems. My last couple of builds have been getting shorter and shorter. I just fished a 4'8" blank in NC for some Ajs and it felt great. I would not want to fish them that short though on any type of sportfisher stle boat. I feel they are more for CC boats, that don't have big running gear. They are definately less fatigue while jigging.

Fighting a fish has more to do with the angler/captain than the rod that being said I havent had any issues with fish close to boat

yeah, thats true.
i was hoping to get some info for new guys to fishing or jigging.
they may be better with a longer rod..when starting.
just something for them to think about.
