Played with them at Tackle Direct and they seem nice. It should be a nice option for 2 speed jig reels if you like the gear ratios. They seem strong. The drag is smooth and going from strike to full felt like a large jump.

Time will tell. I played with one and liked how light it was.

Somebody needs to catch a few 100+lb Bluefin on one to see how it holds up.

Miss Squid been using the Talica 12II since the fall on her grouper rod. I've been quite impressed with this little reel. The gears have the efficiency of the Torsa (they're not as big as the Torsa though) which makes the handle really easy to turn under pressure. I've got hers set at 25 lbs at full (don't remember what that is at strike). Nice thing is that there is no button to push in to go past strike--there's simply an indention that catches the lever as it moves up at the strike position. Keep pushing and your at full. I've got a video of the reel in action that I'll put download this evening and post. It'll get a lot more action after grouper fishing opens back up May 1, and it may even get a little gulf stream action in this spring as well on a flatline. The Shimano guys on the west coast tested these reels quite heavily on the long range boats catching yellowfin. They're a little beast of a reel---enjoy!

It is a large jump--the 12 and 16 models will hold 22 lbs. at strike and 40 lbs. at full. There is not a lot of range in the drag lever between strike and full since the reels are so small, thus the increase feels (and is) really steep. I haven't found that to be a problem at all though.

Any feedback from the folks that fished with talicas last year?

I'm looking at getting another jigging reel or two and have been debating the avet jx vs. other options.

I caught an episode of "Hunt for Big Fish" last night and Larry Dahlberg was using a Talica 20 and a shimano Terez rod to wrestle in 500 lb. Goliath Grouper in French Guyanne. Both the rod and reel looked pretty powerful. I'm curious to see how the reel works out for jigging. All the specs look good.

Anyone use the Terez for popping yet?
