Real good point , most guys want to run a season on a reel before service might pay to do it sooner, I would imagine a 50lb AJ on roids, will do the same amount of damage as a 100lb bft

Why doesn't anyone just buy spare parts anymore? It doesn't matter if it's a Stella, Saragosa, etc. Something is gonna give after hard use. I can see if you're only using it a few times a year. But when you're using a reel of that size to catch big fish, something's gonna give no matter how strong and smooth they say it is. I bought spare drag washers, bearings, etc. to go with my reel. After so many trips, I pull apart and service my reels to check for wear and tear. I would do that even if I had a more expensive reel. I seem to notice that a lot of guys are dependent on the reel to last with just a rinse and dry after fishing. It's no different than breaking down your gun after hunting or doing regular maintenance on your boat motors. I haven't needed to use the spare parts yet and the reel is 6 months old. It's not showing any signs of wear yet. Now if this continues over the year mark, where does the reasoning for the extra $400 bucks come from if people with the Stellas have to send them in after a year of hard fishing also? I can buy all the spare parts I need and still have plenty of money left over. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, let me explain. I have a friend who I talk to all the time and he's a big jig fisherman. All he brags about is how his Stellas, Saltiga Z series reels, etc. hold up to hard fishing without any maintenance for a little over a year before he needs to change his drags and get them serviced. But why would you fish your tackle hard for a year w/o maintenance in the first place? Not saying anything is wrong with the more expensive reels, but I'm trying to understand why they're so much better if it's nothing more than more drag and different components.

Unfortunately I got the last one. There is a used 20000 on ebay right now for 300. Search around try google. There are some sales on them as they are coming out with a new model very soon. They are definitely some good deals on ebay also

I've got a Saragosa 18000F with upgraded Carbontex Drag Washers and so far it's held up well to schoolie tuna and 20lb Jacks in the caribbean. Hopefully I'll give it more of a thorough test down in the Florida Keys and off NC at the end of August; jigging for AJs and other critters lurking down in the depths As far as I know, Kil's Saragosa had the regular stock drag washers when he got smoked by that BIG BFT.

kil not upgrading the type off fish that i'm going to apply the iron to at the moment will not give that kind of work out .
Curious though what is the biggest Cod taken on a jig 50lb 80lb?
anyone seen the fabled 100lb cod in a net even , Norway is pushing that limit think it's now up around 87lb might be wrong here but by not much they only use iron over there.
