    Saragose 14 v 18 ????

What is the difference between the 14000 and 18000. Doesn't seem like much other than the 14000 weighs more? But holds a little less line. Same retrieve. Is one a popper and the other a jigger?

    From Alltackle:

    Model Line Capacity Weight Ratio
    SRG3000F 6/230 12.7 6.0:1 $189.99
    SRG4000F 8/240 12.5 6.0:1 $189.99
    SRG5000F 10/240 20.6 5.2:1 $219.99
    SRG6000F 10/300 21.2 5.2:1 $219.99
    SRG8000F 10/390 20.6 5.2:1 $229.99
    SRG14000F.........20/350.......28.7 .......4.9:1 $299.99
    SRG18000F .........20/380......28.4 .......4.9:1 $299.99

i believe its just a deeper spool, i could be wrong.

but you can see in most of shimanos like, like the stradics , sustains, that the 4-5k reels are usually the same price ,the 4k weights a hair more, and the 5k holds more* line. same for the 6-8k models.

saragossas run a lil different, their 3/4k are the same, 5/6k etc, other then a spare spool.

    Post SEA.

The only differance in the Saragosa's is that the 18000 holds about 30yrds more line. Both drags produce about 44lbs.Although we had problems with one last season while bluefin fishing I still believe it to be A quality reel especially if they fixed the problem of the drag freazing up with close to max drag being applyed. If your not looking to go fishing for bluefin with the reel or bruiser yellowfin I believe it is A good reel for the price.

Was it the drag or the cap? There is a replacement available now. That is why I am asking about these. They seemed to have worked out a major bug.

    Copied from 360 below:

We have a new drag knob for the reel. Please give us a call at 877-577-0600 and we will send you a replacement.

It was with the original early 08 model reel.Did they do A upgraded drag in the saragosa? all I know is that we where fighting A bluefin in the 120-130lb class and the drag froze up about half way through the battle and I had to chase the fish down with the boat,we didnt lose the fish but All shimano could tell us about it was that he should have put extra grease in it.Well that was unexceptable to me as it was A fresh reel brand new from the factory. But I wasnt aware that they may have upgraded there system, and if they corrected that problem it would be A benefit for shimano as well as others because as you know the fish of A lifetime may be at the end of your line and if you have A faulty reel you will probably end up paying dearly for it.I mean whats the sense of stating the drag ratings of A reel if the said reel is not even capable of aquiring that drag rating without damage being done to the reel?

Wow that is A major bug! But I wont believe it till I see it.Hopfully Kil can chime in here and tell us exactly what happend on our trip and tell us exactly what our problem was and if it was the cap or drag or both. All I can say is that if they corrected the problem they have accomplished alot they made A reel capable of producing those kinds of drag ratings and not the cost of A stella which most can not afford.

The replacement is a free factory recall, so if you have saragosa's, get them while they have them. The new cap is made from a more heat resistant plastic.

    Post sea.

I was under the assumption that the saragosa already had A type of Teflon coated material under the cap.But may be wrong.

that would then explain A lot of things the cap was adhering directly to the drag because it had no heat resistant coating? wow
