Not sure if this is a silly question or not but does the Saragosa have a good resistance to salt water?

i have a little corrosion on the top of the spool (in the gap between the goldish part and the spool). We melted our drag on a 150+lb bluefin near masseys last year and shimano is replacing it with the new part.

Was it the knob on top or parts inside?

I'm interested to know since I already got a Stella 20K SW a month ago which is a fantastic reel and now want to get a Saragosa 18K as a second reel as a spare or even for when my son decides to come jigging with me. I noticed that there is no mention of SW or any reference to salt water as there is with the Stella.

The old Stellas were not sealed like the daiwa saltigas. However the new stellas are sealed like the saltigas. Since it is a product improvement, you will here them mention it in marketing.

If you have not heard this claim about Saragosa, I would assume that it is not sealed like the new stella or saltigas. But that is OK, just don't ride with it sitting in the gunnel where it will get a boat spray washdown.

Also an annual cleaning inside will probably be good. I feel you can purchase with confidence and you have the knowledge to know that a new cap is available at no charge, which will put you above the regular consumer.

Pete and I tore into my drag and replaced the original stock drag washers (which by the way were shot!!) with those carbonex smooth drag washers.

Well I guess its like with any reel, it all depends on how one takes care of it. A good rinse after every use, storage in a dry place and the occasional maintenance will probably do the world of good to any reel.
