Saragosa 18k versus Twin Power 10k

    Hi Guys,

I recently bought a Stella 20k which I'm really happy with and now thinking to buy a second reel as a spare but not as expensive. I cannot decide between the Saragosa 18000 and the new Twin Power 10000.

Would appreciate any advise on this

Twin power all the way. Saragosa leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Thanks Glenn, infact before your tread on the intro to jigging, I was going to get a Saragosa but now I'm seriously considering the Twin Power. However, I'm having tremendous problems getting clear information on this model, in fact a reseller on eBay is telling me that the 10000 does not exist but the 12000 and the ratio is possibly slightly high for jigging and the only model that comes in PG is the 8000. I know that this is a good model as well but I rather get the 10000 (or the 12000) with the larger spool size since I like fishing over 100m. Other sources I googled did in fact display the 10000 model but then the ratio seemed to be too high as well.

Can you kindly give me details if possible to what 10000 model you were refering to? Any info at this point will be very helpful. I want to make sure that I get the right model.

    Thanks again,

    Henry

Twin Power 10000FC is a discontiued model and Shimano offers Twin Power 12000HG now.
The gear ratio of 12000HG is 5.6:1.
Twin Power 8000 has two different models: HG (5.6:1) and PG (4.9:1).
The line capacity of 12000HG is PE5/350m or PE6/270m.

Thanks for the info Kilsong.... 2 questions,

    1. Do you think Shimano will be launching a PG model for the 12000 anytime soon? They do have a PG for every other model.

    2. Will the 12000 HG work well for Jigging?

    1. I have no idea when they make 12000PG.

2, It is like a text book. lower gear spinning reel for jigging and higher gear spinning for popping.
But everybody jigs differetly and their tastes are different.

Some guys love Penn Torgue 200/300 or Shimano Torsa for jigging. They are 6;1 gear ratio reels. I heard Mogi-san, founder of Japanese style jigging, love Torsa and he buys them whenever he goes overseas. ( Torsa is export model).

Whats your take on this Glenn? Can a TP 12000 be used for Jigging? The fact that its also good for Popping might enable me to use it for both styles. It is a second reel after all, since my main reel is a Stella 20k. I'll be using it either when sometimes I'll be drifting from deep 100m areas to shallow 30m and I'd set it up with a different lighter jig, saving me changing jigs all the time OR when my son of 18yrs of age comes with me and he would have something decent to fish with.

Some suggested that I should buy another Stella but besides the price difference, its also heavier so I really want to stick to the TP if possible.

One last thing, would it be possible to purchase a TwinPower 8000 with a 12000 spool instead? That could work but I doubt any supplier would replace spools. (not worth buying them both).

Oh well, why can't things be easy sometimes
