saragosa 1800 drag problems still or fixed ?

Did shimano fix the drag problem they were having with this reel ? Or do you still need to upgrade to carbonex drags.Fishing for bluefin off De and MD at the lumps.Prefer spinning if I can get away with it.

I just spoke with Shimano last week about this since Bert Rogers called me about this same problem.

Shimano said the problem is not the drag washers (you can't go wrong replacing stock with carbontex though!), the problem is with the drag knob...they have a replacement part for it which you can get from Shimao...they said they have a 3 week back order on the drag knobs.

Give me a call if you have any questions or I can help in any way...I'm in MD too.

So close to land a 300 plus lbs bluefin on a popper today.

Kilsong seems to like them. But he did say the one they used has the upgraded cap.

Anyone no if Shimano is shipping the new reels with the improvement yet?

All of the new Saragosa's are fine. The problem was in the very early runs of the reels. For many months, everything that has been shipped has had the new cap. If you got one as soon as they came out, Shimano will replace the cap for free (as ReelSmith said, it's the cap, not the washers). If you recently bought one, it will be the new cap---provided that the tackle shop you bought it from didn't have it sitting in the back room under some boxes for several months.

How can the average consumer tell which cap is on there, prior to a meltdown???

I'm just waiting for mine to come in. Rather not learn the hard way.

I bought mine about a year ago from Bass Pro.

I got mine this time last year, how long have they come with the new caps?

FYI Bass Pro was no help on this.

I have had one for a year or so from Tex's. The grease under the drag knob has a black tint to it now, vs. just being a nice clear grease like it was before. The cap does appear slightly worn around the underside. I don't know if this means there is a problem, but I called Shimano for a replacement. Was told there were on a 3 week backorder....this was 3 months ago and I haven't received it. Still no issues with the reel yet.

The Shimano Rep on the FSFF said if they were new this spring or later then they have been upgraded if not call Shimano in Calif and they will send you an upgraded drag knob.
