    Saltiga rods

I am looking for a budget rod that maybe I could use on some big fish I would like to get a daiwa thinking that I could use it for an all around jigging rod a little heavier than my 300 power spell. Is the 50 120 totaly out of the question for the big fish instead of the 80 200 conv.

Not a new subject I know but any imput.

I like saltigas for the money, but am confused a little. You have a 3oog powerspell, but are looking at a 400g saltiga? Just trying to understand what you are shooting for.

Do you think the 40H will lack the torque for big tunas?

The biggest tuna I have ever caught was 107 on a tld 50. Thats all I know about big fish except what I read.

My initial thoughts are the 40H would make a better bait reel and the 40 regular or low would make a better tuna reel. I think you need something a little stronger than a saltiga for large bft, preferrably a 350-500g spiral wrapped rod, but the spiral isn't a must have. Maybe an OTI 400 would be a good place to start in the mid range catagory.

I can tell you that another angler on my boat two weeks ago had a saltiga jigging rod. He needed a break and asked me to help out on his tuna. I fought the fish for atleast 30 minutes on his saltiga rod/saragosa set up. For the money they are good rods BUT they arent a good match for larger fish.

Away from the boat the rod was fine but when the fish got vertical it was a struggle as the tip section just rolls over so your rods backbone feels soft. It was a ***** landing a 170 pound tuna on the rod but ultimately it got done. Even with a saragosa LOL

some pictures of the rod bent, it absolutely wore me out
