The larger Saltigas will get you over 20lbs of drag.

I can also say that my little Saltigas 15 and 20 with Carbontex upgrade and Cals Drag Grease isnt even close to Daiwas claimed 22lbs drag. After warming up the drag and then hooking the scale up I was around 13lbs of drag. They avg about 9lbs of drag stock.
    Interesting.....

My Saltiga 20's get 17 to 19lbs of drag with carbontex. I did a simple mod to them and now can get 25 lbs easily (measured on a digital scale). Another friend of mine has a 30 with carbontex and it gets 19 lbs with it also. Hmmm. I wonder what the difference could be?

Not sure myself. I have double checked that everything went back together right, which they were.

I even tried 2 different scales as well with same results. (All mechanical scales)

I asked my buddy what he got on his smaller Saltigas and he said he was only able to get only 11lbs.

Also forgot to mention that when I did the Carbontex upgrades I greased them as well (Cals).

And the way I tested my drag was to warm the drags up first. I also had the reel mounted on the rod and held the rod at a 45 degree angle wile doing the tests. I don't test my drags by pulling line directly off the reel.

Might want to check the orientation of your drag spring washers after reassemble. That could have an effect. I think stock is (), but not positive.

sa15/20: as well as swapping out the washers for carrbontex, people are installing an extra bearing washer as well. this will enable you to get extra cranks out of the star. also, you only have to turn the star 5times and you have drag instead of 11 times. this can be a dangerous practice as with any reel mod, because its possible to overcrank the drag and put huge stress on the small gears ect which it wasn't designed for. i have ruined one set. also voides the 5 year warranty, (in NZ).

they are great reels, you wont be disappointed with either, its totally going to come down to what feels the best with your set-up.
