    Saltiga Drag

I got a Saltiga 40 in December and was wondering does anyone upgrade their drags on these reels? If you do go with the upgrades what are you getting; more drag, smoother drag, or both.

I don't see a need for me to do it, primarly because I target the usual suspects out of MHC. I was more curious than anything.

The next bite on a jig.
I abused mine all summer with no upgrades yet. When it goes, or even sticks just a little, then I will invest in new.

Stock Saltiga drag washers are good out of the box. No need to upgrade or replace until they get sticky or you start loosing drag pressure. When the time comes to replace the washers, get carbontex from smoothdrag.

Where do you guys get your carbonex drag washers from? I need to replace some drag washers in some of my reels.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Straight from the factory the drags are not greased. I grease my carbontex when I put them in. This protects the gear from corrosion and also prevents the washer bonding to it or the flat washers. Do a little browsing on the web and you'll see this problem along with cracked washers documented on several boards.

It gives you a smoother start up, plus no stickiness. You will see a higher drag out of the carbontex, in the neighborhood of 28 lbs on a 50.

Just to add some perspective, I will tear down a brand new reel and go through and lube it up before I ever give it it's first use. This initial care makes it much easier to maintain later down the road.

That is very good advice. I also tear down my new reels. Stock Saltiga drags are not meant to be greased like you would carbontex. If the stock washers are greased you will cut your drag pressure by 1/3. I learned the hard way

Good information guys, thanks for the replies.

Like I mentioned I hadn't planned on doing anything to my reel at this time, I just wanted to see what some of you more expereanced guys where doing.

I have a 40 that I fished all season, and towards the end the clicker wouldn't engage so I sent it to Alantani for a service and upgrade. He went through it, cleaned, lubed, and added a carbontex drag....can't wait to put it to use.
