    Rod/Reel help

I was wondering if you jigging experts could give me some advice. I have been able to get a stella 10k FA at a good deal, and plan on pairing it with an OTI Jigging Xtreme 6' 300g rod with some type of japanese PE braid put on it. do you think this would be a good setup for vertical jigging? The OTI rod's action is Med-Slow, would this be a problem with jigging? Looking at the trevala's the action is Med-Fast. I'm Targeting mainly for Snappers, Groupers, and AJ's. I have a conv trinidad-20 with Trevala for free lining already. i'm a student and kind of on a budget, so i don't really want to spend the extra bucks on the new stella models with lower gear. and tips would be greatly appreciated.

A Stella 10K FA with a OTI 300gram is a excellent setup for what you want. Can never go wrong with OTI. Also contact Paul@JPR for his budget jigging rods. They start are like $220 which is a hair less then a OTI. Im not big on the Trevalas but they are decent rods and will work as well.

Sounds like a great setup to me. And I like the slower action for jigging! You can also check out Riley Rods for a custom jigging rod. www.rileyrods.com. Paul's site is www.jprrods.com

You can't go by the ratings. YMMV advice above is spot on. I can't tell you how happy I am with the rod Paul at JPR made me.

Last night we were in bed and the wife said, "Ohhh I see your ready."

I said, "Yeah, let me just get up and set my 200g spiral wrapped over the in the corner first"

I guess it's kind of like how you had that bull shit article in Saltwater Sportsmen and never gave credit to the guys that actually own the boat and took you to catch the APS....and then list yourself as a Capt!!!! Just a joke...

Maybe one day I'll be as good as you, but for now I will have to be content with my "Wann-a-be" status.

Like we use to say in the military, stay in your own pay grade!!! I've done this for over 25 yrs, i've had as many bad trips as I had good trips it's all part of the game...Any time you want to come out and run my boat and show me your anchoring skills and put me on the meat it's an open invitation!!! I know to many guys that can call BS on half the stuff that is talked about on this and other sites, the internet is a great tool but it's created too many hacks in the process..
