    Rod Recommendation?

Hi all this is my 1st post here cool site.

I'm setting up my 1st jigging outfit. I got an Avet mxl single speed for Christmas and I'm looking to match it up with a rod. I'm gonna spool it up with either 50 or 65# Power Pro or similar.

Gonna try to kill 2 birds with one stone if possible. Stripers and Smaller Tuners (YF,LF,Small BF). Is this unrealistic? I fish OCMD area if that makes any difference. Things I need to consider is I fish on a small boat most of the time so swinging a 7-8' pole isn't practicle. As far as price goes I'd like to keep it somewhat reasonable. I'd like to keep it less than $200 if possible. I checked out the Travala's but from what I understand there are a few flaws. What are some other options?

    Thanks

These are a few choices within that price range. In no order of preference or performance just price:

    Sea Magic Dragonfly rods
    Hopper rods
    Quantum Boca Jigging rods

One limitation would be finding these rods locally so you can pull on it directly yourself.

    Good luck.

That Avet MXL will handle any striper alive with ease, and yes small tunas too. I have one on a custom rod and I use it for stripers and so many other things. You will only get around 14 lbs of drag at full, so it won't handle monster tuna, but small tuna yes you will handle them especially with the braid. I would put a small topshot of something like 30 mono on there too, give you some stretch and make tying things easier.

You really should consider talking to Paul708 or one of the fine custom rod builders on this site... they can work within your budget and get you something fantastic that won't break and will match your needs exactly! I am fortunate to have a local rod builder near me who does a nice job... for any special rod or sweet reel I now have to have a perfectly matched custom rod.

there are a few rods we could do for that budget. most custom jigging rods using better jigging blanks are more money. but i think you should be able to get something for the MXL
