Thumbs up ****Risky Business Sportfishing Jigging 101 for Bluefin Tuna Trips *****

Risky Business Sportfishing is proud to present to you Jigging 101 hands on learning charters for a select time in July.
We will run 4 trips that cater and teach Jigging techniques to those that want to learn the ins and outs of jigging. We will teach rod set up, jig selection for fish in our areas, proper knots to tie, proper jig presentation, what colors work and why, what size jigs and why, what blanks and or rods to buy and why, what reels to buy and why, what to look for on the fish finder, and anything thing else I may have forgotten to put up here. My goal is to teach you so when you walk off the boat you have a better understanding of this exciting fishing technique. As I have walked through many tackle shops I have been overwhelmed by the amount of jigging equipment that is on the shelves with costs of jigs ranging from 9.99 to 25.00 a piece it can get expensive to try and do “trial and error”. The wrong knots will lead to lost fish and frustration on the water, having the wrong rod set up will lead to fish beating you up while it should be the other way around. I am gearing this around people who already have jigging outfits that want to learn how to best utilize what they have purchased and feel good about it, or are on the fence about this whole jigging thing and need some insight. We will also cover Japanese high speed jigging with spinning outfits and also the standard up/down jigging technique. On top of that I will have a full line of JPR rods and reels for people to try out and get a good feel of what each blank does.
Captain Travis will be the teacher for the jigging while I am busy with putting us on fish. Captain Travis also builds his own rods and makes his own jigs and we will have them on board as well. From what I saw with his last batch of jigs they look deadly and will catch a lot of tuna in the near future. These trips will be on the weekdays in July so we don’t have to deal with the massive fleets found on the weekends. If you can only go on the weekends then I will make arrangements to do a trip or two on a weekend.

On a quick note I will still be doing my regular trips chunking or trolling for the Bluefin. The troll trips we will focus on wahoo after we get a nice Bluefin. The troll trips offer you the best chance to land big Bluefin and the excitement of a big reel screaming as the fish runs for the horizion. I will also be doing regular jigging trips through out the month of July but without a teacher on the boat, you will still learn but not as in depth as with Capt Travis on the boat.
Captain Travis gaffing a nice jig caught Bluefin Tuna

Double hook up Japanese high speed jigging

Giant tuna caught on the troll weighing around 525 whole dressed out at 420lbs in Morehead City

Nice jigged Bluefin Tuna we went 12 for 17 that day

If you dont have a full group send me your contact info and I will put you on a list for open boat trips please specify if you can go weekends or weekdays.
    Thank you,
    Captain Kobey Treadwell

Kobey is the man to put you on the jig bite and Capt Trav is a jigging maniac! I think we averaged around 10 fish on jigs on each of our trips last year.

The next bite on a jig.
A mate from Oregon Inlet told me today "Yeah, this jigging craze aint all its cracked up to be." Thankfully not all charter operations subscribe to that philosophy.

I think some boats will work it and draw more business with the excitement of this type of fishing. Others will stick to tradition and get left behind.

He did make a point and that was that there was more to offshore than just tuna. Maybe so, but I would take one white on a jig vs. ten on the troll.

I wish you guys the best and will be routing for your success from down south!!! Give 'em hell.

I wish there was someone down here that would do this. I am just starting and this would be very useful. From Grouper to AJ to Wahoo, that would be awesome.

Thanks for including me on this oportunity Kobey!!! I am really liking the idea behind this. I realized that this would work when Mike and I did a charter last year that was put together on a make up trip. The charter had a very mixed bag of experience and offshore knowledge. We were very ineffective during the first 3 hrs when Mike and confinced the capt to let us jig. With half a day remaining we managed to put about 10+ tuna on the deck with the jig. Anglers that never touched a jig before ended up with bites. If we worked with them from the get go they would have learned a ton in just one day. They are now true believers in the jig. I'm not saying that jig fishing is the cure for all fishing but on certain circumstances you can not out fish the jig.
I will put my heart in sole into this venture and try to make the most of it.
These first classes will be a learning curve for all of us the students and teachers, and hopefully we can expand to new areas. I also want to let others know that this is for all levels of fishermen. Experts to first time novices. There alsways room for learning including me. It'll be alot of fun and good times on the water.
On a side note remember to bring a camera cause we'll be catching and the day before sailing we'll be covering alot of info so you may wan tto take notes. If you already have jigging gear please bring it both days so we can go over it and compare and hopefully fut it to its fullest test. If you are siging up please feel free to ask any questions on this thread to help prepare for these trips.
Thanks for everyone supporting this sport!!!!!
