    RINGS ON JIGS/breakoffs

there has been some breakoffs when jigging and fighting fish,
it seems the solid rings which you tie your line to, may have a burr.or a spot where line breaks
    the williamson was one.
you may have to replace the solid ring that comes with your jig
    with a better round ring
    just something to look for

Paul, definitely had this problem jigging for AJs in NC with the Williamson jigs. Here's what we noticed:

The Williamson jigs come with assist hooks that include a solid ring that is stamped. Now, the advantage of that is there is no weld point, but it also means that the cross-section is not truly round, but more oblong with definite edges at top and bottom. Under a lot of stress, these edges can cut through your leader. Lost 2 of their jigs back-to-back bacuse of it. (Since I had my leader crimped, it was real easy to tell that the ring had cut through.)

From now on, I'm cutting off their ring and replace them with truly round rings. Otherwise, great jigs.

Were you guys having problems tying loop knots to the rings, or a knot that goes tight to the ring like a Palomar, Improved Clinch, etc?

Thanks for the heads up Paul!

Mine were crimped, so its the equivalent of a small loop. Given how clean the cuts were on the flouro leader, not sure it would've mattered. A Palomar MIGHT have survived since the leader is doubled through the ring. But I'd rather not run that risk when I can simply replace the ring.
