First trip on the boat since it went in the shop getting some gel coat repairs, etc. It was going to be a bit rough, but we decided to go anyways. One guy backed out due to the conditions and another from my dad's church decided he would brave it and give his first offshore experience a try. Our intent was to head about 60ish miles out and try for some gaffers. We dodged rain showers all morning on the way out and stopped for a bathroom break about 40ish miles out. Thats when Rob got sick and stayed that way for the rest of the day. My dad and I went to a spot about 2 miles from where we stopped and jigged up some AJ's and a cobe that went 39 inches in length. We got pushed back inshore when a big storm same rolling in. We decided we would head in and try for some grouper or other fish on the bottom until we got pushed in even farther. Whoever said grouper don't bite jigs was wrong. We fished for less than an hour and caught over our limit and threw some shorter ones back. We ended up keeping 5 because we kept throwing the small ones back hoping for a bigger one we never got before having to leave. It was a great day on the water though and we didn't use a single peice of bait all day! I've got a few pics that I will post up tomorrow. Only 1 from the boat as it was a bit rainy and wet all day! The biggest gag went 30-31 inches. Can't wait until we are able to get out again with some calmer...less than 6 footers...seas and can get in on some of the gaffers.
