    Hi all,

I am new to jigging. Does any one use Shimano Torsa 16 N for jigging? Does this reel recommend for jigging? What rating of braided line should I use for this reel? Any rod recommend to use with this reel? I am planing to use at NC jigging trip.

    Any advice appreciate

What are you fishing for ? How deep ? Kind of a broad question , but no worries ! Just be a little more specific . This forum has some of the absolute best sportfisherman/ jiggers on it ! Standin by

I found http://www.livelinecharters.com/ charter from forum. I am planing to go with friends. We are targeting black fin tuna. I have never had jigging trip before. I only own a Shimano torsa 16 N reel. I will need to prepare other stuffs for jigging. Have you been to livelinecharters or do you recommend any of other jigging charter?

You cant go wrong with liveline Charters ! The Mans reports speak for them selves ! I have never fished with them but given the chance I would ! If you need Jiggin rods for the torsa let me know I have two customs I am lookin to part with.(350 gram /400 gram) couple of reels too ! Saltiga 40 & Trini 40N . Liveline charters would be a good choice.

Thanks for the info. I had Saltiga 40 already and I am looking for Smith AMJ S52EX rod. What is the rating of braided line and leader should I use for 300~400 gram of jig?

    300-400 Gram rating

Actually , when the rod specifies the Gram rating it is in regard to the sizi jig that the rodl will load up with properly , as far as line goes , I would ask the Capt of live line charters on what size line to use , He would know best . I would think 65-80lb would be sufficient . There are others on this board who know alot more than I & I,m sure they will chime in !

Captain Mike (Liveline) can certainly help you with your questions. I fish the same area and I thing a 16N torsa is a very good choice of reel for jigging. Matched with a good 200 - 300 gr quality jigging rod and 65 to 80 lb color coded (need to fish specific depths for tuna) braid you'll have a good outfit to catch the typical blackfins here (10 -25 lbs) as well as the often much larger (20 -80 lbs) amberjacks that live just below them.
For this type of fishing I use a trinidad 16 N and a 250 gr star plasma jigging rod with 65lb saltiga boat braid and like it fine.
    Good luck.

Just saw your old post on the 16N

I love mine and use 55 lb colored boat braid on a 250 class jigging rod. For 350 and greater, I prefer my Makaira II speeds. Amberjack may take longer to boat than your buddies would like but they are more fun on the lighter tackle (if not over a wreck).

Yellowfin and blackfin off Va and NC require no larger outfit. I also use it for working under weed lines where most anything can show up. I would rather get over matched once and move up in class (and possibly lose the fish) than go heavier all the time.
