Red Snapper Fishing OVER!!!!
NOAA Fisheries Service filed and will publish a final rule implementing interim measures to reduce overfishing of red snapper in the South Atlantic. The final rule will publish in the Federal Register on December 4, 2009, and becomes effective January 4, 2010. The interim rule will be effective until June 2, 2010, and could be extended for another 186-day period.
The final rule establishes a prohibition on recreational and commercial harvest of red snapper for 180 days in federal waters off Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. However, provisions specified in the interim rule would also apply to a person on board a vessel for which a federal commercial or charter/headboat permit for the South Atlantic snapper-grouper fishery has been issued, regardless of whether the fish are harvested or possessed in state or federal waters.

Hide- My Wifes Logged On
this is crap
they finally show up in good numbers and size here in NC and they shut it down. I never caught one til 5 yrs ago, then last year we started getting keepers. last trip I had 12.
no grouper jan-april, no red snapper, no beeliners.......headboats shutting down, no selling grouper/snapper w/nc commercial license...... its getting to the point of rebellion folks. all these environmentalist (I believe in sustainable harvest) are using flawed unscientific data to make these rules. theres plenty of fish here in NC! I dont know about FL or GA or SC but we have healthy stocks. Im glad I got into scuba/spearfishing, you can see what the safmc doesnt, there is actually fish down there.

AKA Spineyman
Lets put it this way, They have been messing with us up here in the Northern GOM also. I have fished out of Destin since 1985 and have never seen so many quality snapper that we have had for 2 years running. Our average catch last summer was from 8# to 18# with a few bigger ones thrown in for good measure. Pure and simple the Rec fishermen are getting spanked by the enviro-nuts.

Chum Nuts
Look at it this way, if those wack jobs protect the "endangered" red snapper like they protect the "endangered" dog fish, you boys won't have anything to worry about- they'll be crawling up on the beaches in no time

"If at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving"
Until the idoits who hold political office now are voted out and someone with some common are voted in we are screwed. And here lately we have been screwed like a two dollar whore.
While we are at it can we get separation of church and state. By that I mean the religion of globial warming. Sorry, that soap box just jumped under me some how. Now back to the snapper at hand. We are now offically over regulated, over taxed, and underfished. I retire and they close off every fish worth going after. How the fishing industry serves this I have no clue. But if I have more time on my hands (becuase I am not fishing) you can bet I am going to make some politicians life as miserable as I can. Hopefuly everyone with a dog in this fight will do the same.

And now "Climategate" is about to be exposed! 2012 can't get here quick enough, and next year with the mid term Congressional elections it will be time to take our country back from these extremist that are in office now!
