    Quantum boca jigging rod?

Anyone tried one of these rods? I picked up the BCC58 - 325 new a few days ago for a very good price and I was pretty impressed with it. I liked it better than the XXH trevala I have used in the past. It held up well with my accurate 270 reel catching AJ's up to 70lbs. I was fishing with 20lbs of drag and 55lb daiwa samurai braid. My only problem was the line cutting into the grip when hooked up to a big one. I don't know if its just because of the accurate 270 being so small and low to the rod or if this has happened to anyone else. Anyone have a way to fix something like that? I was thinking about shaving the grip down more than it already is, but don't know if thats the best solution.

I was going to take some pics of it with dead weight, but I left it at my dad's after cleaning it on our last trip.

have another guide added closer to the handle and that will keep the line off the handle and fingers.

Several reel companies start to sell jigging rods imported from China. All are decent quality and it is good idea to start with them as a starting rod. Once you get used to jigging, then you know what you want eventually.

Line cutting into grip is a common problem with light Japanese style jigging rods especially when you choose parabolic action rods. It is not comfortable feeling when line touches your hand on the grip, but it is OK when you wear gloves.
I never heard anyone lost fish because of the problem.

I am going to get into building my own rods and got all the necessary equipment, rod wrapper, dryer, etc. for Christmas so I will likely be able to add a guide soon. Haven't started playing with it yet.

Anyone have a clue as to how much it would be to add an SIC suide to a rod? Just curious if its worth paying for now or waiting until I get the hang of building and then do it myself.

    Thanks for the replies.

If you build your own rods, I definitely recommend SIC guides.
I was trying to say to buy a jigging rods with SIC guides. Harloy guides are OK even for braided lines. But I lost expensive PE lines and big fish too as I didn't know there were cracks on my Hordloy guides. It happened many times until I started to use SIC guides.

you can do the guide yourself.
starting with one guide. will be easy.

when you pic blanks and do your static test, the line should not be touching the grips, or the blank between the guides.
sometime the rods are not strong enough to fish the drag we use.
alot of the jigging rods and blanks being made are to light for what we are using..
    they will work ..yes.
    BUT
cutting grips and tips turning. usually mean "back off the drag"

Paul, isn't it common knowledge among rod builders that line can touch hand or foregrip when fighting big fish with light rods, especially the rod is parabolic ? Are you saying Shimano's Trevala rods or other jigging rods are defect ?
As you know there has to be some distance between the first guide and reel and it is enevitable line touches hands or grip when light rods get bent by big fish, especially jig fishermen use smaller, lower prifile reels like 2/0 size.

Line touching problem rarely happens on heavy rods like 400g or 500g, but it is common when you use very thin 200g or 250g rod for big fish.

"cutting grip usually back off drag" ?
Are you serious ? You mean you back off drag while fighting big fish just because line touches your hand ?

I can vouch for Kil when he says this,he believes maximum drag pressure is always better even when line is touching grip.Especially when releasing targeted species.MORE CHANCE(for survilal of fish) THE FISH WILL SWIM AWAY!

I have a simple fix! For Spiral Wraps, at least! 25mm Fuji SiN2 or SiC Turbo or the heavy boat guide, right at the end of the grip. I did my 2 cod rods this way, as well as fluking rods and will be doing more this way! Does not seem to affect the casting much as these are mostly jigging rods, but I can still launch 70+ yds with a levelwind Tekota 800 with a sidearm technique. Keeps the line up off of the grip and your hand. I don't want to think of what braid will do to my hand if a tuna makes a run for it and I'm holding at a certain grip!

It would be pretty easy to do this yourself. Get a guide and prep it. Underwrap under the guide, put the guide on, and then wrap the guide. These are both spiral wrapped rods, I dunno if this will work with a conventional setup because it may not let the other guides load properly. My only Conv wrapped rods I have made so far have been the 3 tuna trolling rods with full rollers. Everything else from freshwater bass to cod and tuna jigging rods has been a spiral.

Paul, isn't it common knowledge among rod builders that line can touch hand or foregrip when fighting big fish with light rods, especially the rod is parabolic ? Kil..it is common knowledge among ANYONE who has had hands or grips cut.
when we teach rodbuilding, and do static test. we keep line off blank and grips..(its what we teach).
IF RODBUILDERS CHOOSE to build rods that CUT hands and GRIPS. that may be because the blank is being used is being overused or overdragged

Are you saying Shimano's Trevala rods or other jigging rods are defect ? KIl. travella had a problem with rods..they made them more "stout" to try to stop cuttin. and handle bigger fish..
they are not "defective" just over draged. if the rods are built and fished, with smaller fish ..NO Cut problem..BIG fish CUTS grips..it just seems like the wrong blank for the job

As you know there has to be some distance between the first guide and reel and it is enevitable line touches hands or grip when light rods get bent by big fish, especially jig fishermen use smaller, lower prifile reels like 2/0 size.yes light rods..using BIG drags and catching big fish

Line touching problem rarely happens on heavy rods like 400g or 500g, but it is common when you use very thin 200g or 250g rod for big fish.agree,,bigger and heavier blank, bigger fish ..VERY rarely happen...its the RIGHT BLANK for bigger fish

"cutting grip usually back off drag" ?
Are you serious ? You mean you back off drag while fighting big fish just because line touches your hand no its NOT what i mean..i mean..if you test the rod with 20# of drag and your hand is bleeding or you fore grip is cut up..DONT USE 20# of drag..UNLESS you like to bleed.
BACK OFF the drag on the rod you bought..so you dont bleed. and
get a HEAVIER ROD....the RIGHT rod for the job
