Popping Blitz- 6-8-2011

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the late Post. We had a night to remember on Wednesday night. Headed out in Brian Rice's 31' Contender- Jersey Devil out of the Navesink River in New Jersey. We ran out at 40+ knots around the tip of the hook into a 20+ south wind. Typical Contender ride- no need to slow down. Went down the channel and heard there were some fish around but no readings. It was blowing hard to cast topwater so we started livelining and I wasn't in the water more than a few minutes and fish on. It was a 30 lb beauty on a Zenith Rod I got from Jersey Brian. Thanks bro- great rod and a great fish to start.

Now it was time to cast into the wind. So Max Berry and myself starting throwing plugs. We started getting boils and the wind started to flop out. Conditions improving. Max hooked up first on a pencil popper from his new tackle shop. I followed with a stickbait. The pencil popper were seeing more actions so I got one of Max's spares and game on. I caught 6 fish in a row- all 25+ and the last one 42 lbs which I released. I let her swim another day to produce us some more of these beautiful fish. Then I past my rod over to Marcello who didn't bring a rod. He had a great time casting as well. So I put a popper on the short Zenith and continued to catch on Maniac poppers. The action was insane watching the bass blowing the plugs and bunker out of the water. The bite was 10 to 1 on topwater. We caught countless fish in three hours. We left them biting right at dark and ran in and got Jay Cosgrove to come down and open the scale house up at Bahr's Landing in Highlands- Thanks Jay. The biggest fish weighed in at 43.6 lbs. It was a night to remember.
Great thanks to;
