Best Catch: The next bite on a jig.
Parabolic v. Big Game

I will be buying several new rods this year. I got to use both styles and I would say the true parabolic works jigs easier and is easier on the angler. My Daiwa's would be considered more "L" shaped Big Game style than the true PB's.

So many rods, so little fishing time anymore.

What should I do?

PS. Anything I do get will probably be custom.

When you say parabolic, do you mean the blank bends into the reel seat where you feel the rod bending underneath the foregrip? Or Parabolic where the rod bends down to teh handle and pretty much shuts off?

Jim..if you are going custom. i would suggest talking to the builder you are going to use. OR ..a few builders to determine who you will use.
if your builder has the blanks to compare and can give you the info you need to make a good decision that will make the process easier.
plus it is all part of the rodbuilding process.
talking to a client about what he NEEDS and WANTS. will help get you a better rod.

the parabolic and big game..

they are mostly "key" words in selling rods.
but have come more into play recently.

what "parabolic rod" have you tried? model, blank, ect..

and what "big game" rod..model, blank, rating..ect

how did you like them?.

what did you catch on them?

what typical size fish you target?

this is just some questions we go thru with trying to get the right rod for you.
there are alot more question and more info needed to make a good suggestion.
especially when there are a few blanks to choose from.

it is VERY easy when a guy just comes in and says..
i want a JM or calstar blank for jigging 80# tuna
or
i want to spend 200 for a rod.

i guess the "big game" more mod/fast, fast action.
like calstar and the other big name fast action blanks?

I guess I got stuck on the big game terminology to describe fast action rods because of the tuna max blanks. Their big game was fast, then they had parabolic for their mediums.

We have used both styles of tuna max. Other parabolics were jigging masters and trevalas. Fast/Big games like the rileys and daiwas.

I guess for the purpose of conversation parabolics bend into the grip and form a parabola when fully loaded.

I'm just trying to get my head right before the rod show in high point. I think mudhole, acid rods and billy40 will all be there with blanks and I will be there with my wallet.

I thought parabolic is good for big game.
Calstar is not designed for jigging, but to fish with bait. You need light tip to cast live baits.
