However, I have experienced that the Diawa blanks actions are totally different depending on whether the blank has been tied for conventional or spinning.

I have the same Diawa blanks that are tied for conventional with a 30t. Also one tied for spinning with an Expedition. Its freaky at how much different the action is, even though it is exactly the same blank.

The blank tied for conventional loads medium-fast. The same blank tied for spinning loads medium.
    Jim,
How do you like the action of Daiwa rod ?
Guys who use Daiwa rods like them very much.
Are you using the first generation Trevala rods ?
The first generation of Trevala rods are all parabolic, but they changed to fast action rods on later models.

    Kil,
The only Trevalas I have used are Steves.

I like the action, durability and price of the Diawa rods. They are faster action rods so they load more slowly, but if I slow down the tempo of my speed jigging just a little, then everything comes together.

Yesterday one of the anglers on the boat that I went on kept slamming my spinner into the t-top on the boat. If it had been a expensive rod, I would have been upset. But for a cheap rod, I didn't care.

    Keepitreel,
Spineyman has OTI's and could offer better information based on real usage. His reviews have been positive. I have not used the OTI, but will hopefully will get the chance to review them closely, if I can make it to Icast.

Years ago, I had a 7 nice bluefin in 100 - 130 lbs range on jigs on a party boat and one fisherman didn't catch any. So I let him fight a nice bluefin which I had on my custom jigging rod. The first thing he did was he hit my rod hard against boat because he couldn't control the fish and broke the tip of the rod. Since then I don't let other guys use my custom rods. I always bring extra setup with cheaper rod like Hopper rod in case someone ask me to use my rods.
