With all the bluefin reports from oregon inlet, robert, my brother, and I decided to pack the boat and make the four hour drive north to see what we can do. We got to the boat ramp the next morning at 4 splashed the boat in and waited for the fleet. Finally managed to head out the inlet about 6 with our nerves a wreck from waiting around for two hours. We made short work of the 35 mile run and went on the troll to try and locate some fish. The only thing we found was a lonely thresher shark that tried desperately for 5 minutes to eat a bait until it finally faded away. With our spirits getting low after 4 hours of trolling with nothing to show for it we decided to make a short move north and try for a tilefish or two. We dropped the jigs and got covered up by big bluefish. We finally found a few tilefish when we here a call on the radio of bluefins about 15 miles up the beach. We packed up and headed that way.We got to the spot and saw a few boats hooked up. I immediately started marking fish and first drop with a drift tune gets smoked on the drop. Robert was tight on our first bluefin of the day. He fought the fish within one foot of gaffing range and the leader pops. We were heart broken but it was time for round two. We ran back up to the top of our drift and i immediately hooked up. Within about 8 minutes we had our keeper in the boat at about 130 pounds. The next 4 hours was pure mayhem with a hook up on pretty much every drop. INSANE!!! By the end of the day we landed 10, had at least twice that many hooked up and we had to stop due to daylight and pure exhaustion. The smallest fish was about 90 pounds and the rest were 125-170. They were still chewing hard when we left em. It was another beautiful day on the water for us with epic fishing. It doesn't get any better than that!
Tackle used yesterday:
Stella 20k/AMJ 52ex
Saltiga 30t/lamiglas tropic pro
Torsa 16/WGJ 50h
We fished PE 6 on everything with 130lb seaguar premiere. All tackle was sufficient for landing fish. The WGJ 50h/torsa combo was a beast and bested even the biggest bluefin of the day in about 12 minutes. WGJ can land big tuna without a problem. Hands down one of the most powerful rods ive used.
OK i hate you comes to mind I should have driven .... *******!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway the least you can do is dedicate the blood war paint and tuna eye licking to me. Ive copyrighted it LOL

robbie hold that fish up for a picture man!!! it wouldnt be a good trip unless charles manson jumped on the boat
Congratulations Chip and crew! Many folks thought about doing what you did. Few tried and fewer yet succeeded. Way to put it to them and hard to believe what that small (only in looks) tackle can do.
