The weather looked right and we decided to push off shore after hearing that the stripers were still far north and out past the 3 mile mark. We left the inlet heading south and found a 2 degree break in 58 fantoms loaded with jelly fish and a little weed. Got the lines out out got eat up suddenly by small 2-6 lb baby blue fin. AND that was IT.for the next 6 hours..the water was 67 degrees and thats the hottest we found.
We pushed north past the Point and did some jigging and bait dropping in 43 fantoms. First drop with the jig produced a 15 lb blue fish from the bottom. Second drop something BIG hit and pulled line with 14 lbs of drag. This lasted for about 2 minutes. It felt like a big AJ but I would not expect one in this cold of water..any way it came off.possibly a tuna??
Next 8 drops produced 8 nice blue line tiles. Conclusion: jigs out fished the bait. We ended up with 4 big blues..8 tiles...3 17inch bsb's. Would have kept at them but had to get back..it was the bottom of the ninth and we didn't hit a home run with the tuna..but we did put meat in the box!
I was using a 10 oz glow butterfly jig.
