North Topsail, NC Report

Went fishing Friday, 8-7-09 out of New River Inlet. I had a bunch of family in town from Alabama and Pennsylvania so we decided to head offshore. It was a little bumpy but not too bad. We tried an AR close to shore because we had heard there were some big AJ's there...but we couldn't get anything to bite on the jig. I did hook up with a large AJ on a popper that went probably 60-70lbs or so.

After that we pushed off another 30 miles or so to the same area we fished two weekends ago that produced teh blackfin on the jig. We trolled around for a couple hours and caught a a 15lb king and a 25lb king mackerel, as well as a bailer dolphin and a few flase albacores. We then decided to do some jigging out there over a few good bottom marks. We caught a nice variety of bottom fish and even got another 25lb king mackerel on the jig. We only kept the bottom fish we couldn't vent or were deep hooked.

After playing with those guys for awhile...we moved into 95ft of water to a grouper spot we know of. I ended up catching this 34inch gag on one of Jim's jigs. It bit a heavily used 300g potroast jig.

Total brought home for the day is in the pics, but we caught so many fish it was ridiculous. We just didn't have freezer room nor cooler room to last until Sunday night when we were going home so we threw most everything back.
