ReefCast is excellent if you know how to use it. Most people look at the regular one think it is the whole story. The last 5 model runs in Emsemble tell you when it is unsure....and tell you when it knows for sure. When the model is in agreement....it is dead on.

As someone who works on the water, Reef Cast has been the most accurate forecasting tool around. Mind you nothing is 100% but day in and day out Reef Cast has been right on the money. This is the first time I heard anyone say that they didn't like Reef Cast, if you can give some insite to your comment I think alot of us that use Reef Cast in helping us make weather decisions would be very interested in hearing more on this topic.

Reefcast has been the most accurate for me and the Navy tables good as well, just not granular enough.

I don't have any confidence in Reefcast. I have watched it for a couple of years but recently I watched it very closely every day for 6 weeks, along with other sites and actual buoy readings. Numerous times it will show wind speed 10-15 knots wrong compared to the current bouy reading. When the huge low pressure came into the Outer Banks the first week of November, it was calling for 10-15 knot winds and it blew 40-50. I e-mailed this info. to Reefcast during the blow and we shared some back and fourth readings. It was blowing 50 at the Diamond Shoals bouy and Reefcast was reporting 20. In the end, Capt. Dave said Reefcast has a problem predicting systems that move from east to west. OK, that's understandable, we don't see alot of those systems. So I started paying more atention to how it predicts traditional west to east systems. I find it is good only for predicting tomorrows weather or two days out...tops. Even then, I would never rely on it.

Also, I have seen the reefcast forecast change tremendously just 48 hours out. If it can't predict the weather out two days, then I have no confidence planning a trip 4 days out.

All of us are looking for that perfect website that can predict the seas in advance. I have about ten sites bookmarked and all of them miss the forecast frequently. Of all the ones I use and watch, this one is the most accurate for me:

    http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/wfo...?expandweek=ON

It is one of NOAA's. They call it an experimental site but I have used it since the beginning of 2007. I have seen it to have good accuracy in terms of wind direction and speed up to 5 days out. Scroll your pointer down the wind speed/direction column.
