There are several benifits to spiral wraps. One is keeping the line off the blank when under load. Spiraling further up the blank would still keep the line off the blank. As far as asisting to help keep the rod upright I don't believe it would be as effective. When I was AJ fishing I saw Capt. Rick had some factory produced spiral rods. I don't remember what manufacturer but the transition was far up the blank.

Chris,
I built two acid wraps over the winter and fished them this year- I wrapped one to the right and one to the left just to see if I noticed a difference, and when I was fighting fish they felt pretty much identical. The thing that I actually found that I liked with the right hand wrap was that because the guides were on the handle side of the reel, it seemed to be easier to store. Depending on where the rods are being stored, or if you travel a lot and are packing it in a rod case it could make a big difference.

Also, if you hold the rod with your right hand above the reel, when you lay the rod down, it will naturally roll left out of your hand, leaving the guides off of the deck.

There is no advantage going one way or the other.

Not spirals, but more about the carbon-kevlar from Synit. I'm guessing but these must be inspired by the Patriot Design blanks?

PS. Saw your new Tuna video and applaud you guys for the conservation you take in handling these fish and not pulling them out of the water. Its an example that others should look to. Pretty work.
