    Newb Question

I have been reading a lot about butterfly jigs lately and decided this is some thing that I need to learn. Just happened to walk into Sports Authority the other day and they had a good selection of gear 50%off. In that they had Williamson Abyss jigs and Benthos jigs. So having a mild case of OCD I bought 6 jigs in 9 weight and 2 in 5 weight. They all have the single assist hook on a split ring.
But they also have a tie on ring at the tail and one in the center.
    Here come the questions
    1. Do you tie direct to the nose tie on or add another split ring?
2.What are the other tie on's for (my guess would be additional hooks) all though the center one could be used for a horizontal drop.
3.Do you tie direct or use a snap?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Tie to the solid ring (where the hook is looped). The split ring is used to connect the solid ring to the jig

They are for additional assist hooks. Some folks like to use a treble hook on the bottom.
3.Do you tie direct or use a snap?
Most folks do not use a swivel at all. Some use a heavy BB swivel above the jig

Thanks in advance for the help.

We started using BB swivels. I like that route, I don't know if we do better bite-wise with them though..?.

We don't tie on any other hooks anymore, just the top. We used to put one on the bottom, but it always fouled(sp)-out too much. We also put 2 assist hooks on some of our jigs (at the top).

The Williamson jigs you mentioned are nice - they are what we switched to after losing $20 Shimanos. :S SeaDraggins jigs are awesome too ~ what we've been killing fish with lately.

Welcome to jigging!! It gets addicting!

Thank you for the info. I will try to put it to good use. blueoceaneyez I see that you you were from the Monkey Junction area. My home is just north of there. We are in a subdivision just off Masonboro Loop Road. We will be moving back in about 18 months.

Cool deal! We're moving back in 15 months (july 2010) - as long as we can get our jobs back or similar good jobs. We lived in Silva Terra. My husband was born and grew up off Myrtle Grove Road.

We lived there from January 97 through July of 99 I used to be general manager of the Wilmington Printing Company. Sadly they closed up about 2 years ago. Our house is in Vineyard Green. My plan is leaving New York on 1/2/2011. But the way work is going it may be sooner (not a bad thing).

    1. Tie to the solid ring on top. The reason is when you hook a fish you are pulling directly away from the hook and not using the jig as a leverage.

    2. The other eyelets are for additional hooks, but the cause you more problems that what its worth.

    3. I tie directly to the solid ring on top.

There should also be a warning. Jigging is addictive and causes you to spend money uncontrollably.
