Got to play around with these in Bermuda durring the jigging seminar. They are nice. You should be able to place above the reel, I actually prefer Paul's placement in the picture because it keeps the straps low and out of the way. yes it will cut down on a little leverage but it does get the job done, and ads a touch of bling too .
